The Bottom Line:
Complete fiction and unrealistic views of the dating scene and human psyche.
Before I start to offend I should state that my opinion is well researched and not just and
ignorant accusation based upon mere preference. At first I though John Gray was a
revolutionary master of psychology and had given the answer to the problem of
male-female communication. However that proved to be a problem, his answers are too
good to be realistic. All his solutions label and judge all human beings into two boxes of
nomadic male and suffocating female. Despite how incorrect his judgments and
assumptions are he goes even further by proposing all problems between male and
female arise from differences in brain function. After much research I discovered that
male and female brain function does differ, yet John Gray offers no explanation of why.
He simply states it to be a unquestionable absolute that must be accepted and worked
with. According to Gray brain differences cause behavior and communication
differences. Men and women have to understand these indisputable differences and work
around them. He hits an insulting note and scientific impossibility when he describes
men as blowtorches and women as ovens. This ignorant metaphor refers to the sexual
drive of men and women. Men are turned on and off quick and women take a long time
to heat up. I had a good laugh at his old world views. Any female who understands their
sexuality and is not ashamed of it can explain that women get turned on and off just as
quickly as men do. Women have just recently been viewed and accepted as sexual
creatures. In the past a women who displayed her sexuality too soon or at all in a
relationship was considered a slut and unsuitable for marriage. If John gray still accepts
these beliefs then he should either keep them to himself or further educate himself before
he writes a book. As far as the whole brain theory goes, men and women are different.
Not by some divine force of evolution or spirituality but by our social influences. Our
society programs children at birth to fit into a specific role of male and female. The
development of our brains starts with our environment. So if you wish for a quick fix and
a simple answer then follow all of DR. Gray's advice. The real answer is a grim one few
chose to accept. I recommend reading "The Second shift" and "The Hearts of Men" if you
truly wish to understand how to work well with the opposite sex. The key is
understanding. I hope all of you do not believe Gray as fact. Research it for yourself and
you'll discover what the real truth is.
