"Mr. Daryaei, here is the reply of the United States of America."

Pros Clancy at the height of his storytelling powers. A big, compelling story.
Cons The Ebola-related material may be too gross for some.
Recommended it? Yes

In the horrific climax of Debt of Honor, former intelligence official and National Security Advisor (and briefly, Vice-President) Jack Ryan finds himself elevated to the Presidency...and in the sights of foreign and domestic adversaries. Even as the Capitol building smolders and the late President... Read full review »

Executive Compensation and Benefits?

bybuffoonery May 31, 2000
30 Helpfuls 31 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Bad guys get bashed, good guys win
Cons Long. Really long. Much too long.
Recommended it? Yes

. . . typically do not include a kidnap attempt on your daughter and an assassination attempt on your person. If I were Jack Ryan, I would be suing Hewitt & Associates or whatever miserable executive comp consulting firm drew up this crummy contract with the government.

SPOILER ALERT: If... Read full review »

Awesome Book

Pros Addicting Story
Cons Technical Jargon
Recommended it? Yes

For those of you who have never read a Tom Clancy novel, now is the time to start. The thing I appreciate about Clancy is that he doesn't try to pull off some great literary feat-- he just focuses on having a good story.

For those of you familiar with Clancy this is a great continuation... Read full review »

Tough term, Mr. President?

Pros Great adventure
Cons Length
Recommended it? Yes

If you are familiar with Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan characters, you already know that the last job Ryan would want to hold is POTUS (President of the United States). This is exactly where we find him at the outset of Executive Orders. A plane has crashed into Capitol Hill just after Ryan has been sworn... Read full review »

Not The Same Tom Clancy

byBig_Brother_79 Oct 15, 2000
11 Helpfuls 12 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Interesting Storyline; Lots of Shooting :)
Cons Long; Rather Disjointed; Not-Quite-Realistic Storyline
Recommended it? Yes

While Clancy's novels usually flow in a manner that is easy to read and exciting to follow, this 1358 page behemoth is not quite the same. Jack Ryan, the hero of this series of Tom Clancy's novels, has become the President of the United States following the novel "Debt of Honor". By the way, I... Read full review »

One of Clancy's Best

Pros superb plot, vivid characters, exciting action, great ending
Cons rather lengthy, although it "moves" quickly
Recommended it? Yes

Executive Orders was my second Clancy novel (The Hunt for Red October was my first). I began reading it a few minutes after I walked out of the bookstore with a brand new copy in my hand, and I hated having to stop. Although the book appears rather long (actually, it is rather long), it is... Read full review »

Another Great Book by Clancy

bySolid_Snake Apr 9, 2000
13 Helpfuls 14 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros The story moves at a smooth pace, the explosive ending
Cons It's 1395 pages long, a little on the long side
Recommended it? Yes

Tom Clancy is one of my favorite authors, I love his Jack Ryan series. I've read almost all of the Jack Ryan novels and only disliked one (Debt of Honor). This is basically Debt of Honor pt. 2, as it starts minutes after Honor's explosive climax.

At the end of DOH, Jack Ryan accepts a 1... Read full review »

Pros Interesting plot, great characters, long
Cons Very technical at times, can be confusing, something missing
Recommended it? Yes

it never ceases to amaze me how Mr. Clancy has such an awesome view not only of the military, but of all government branches! I think I learn more government from him than I did in my high school government class!

The book started with Mr. Ryan, who is a familiar character to any true... Read full review »

Executive Jack

Pros Jack Ryan
Cons length
Recommended it? Yes

Jack Ryan has gone from being a mid-level operative at the CIA to the highest levels of federal government. He is Clancy's cash cow, the character who brought an insurance salesman to greatness. Ryan can only go higher in the government, right? He can't go down. That won't sell books.

Good Morning, Mr. President...

Cons At 1352 pages, not recommended for those who like a quick read.
