The Bottom Line:
Don't buy it. It's expensive, and in my experience, the coffee it brews is less flavorful than the same coffee brewed by a plain old automatic drip.
I was given one of these as a Christmas present, and after hearing a lot of good things said about them, I was very excited to try it out. Unfortunately, the coffee brewed by this thing just didn't seem very flavorful. I thought maybe my mind was playing tricks on me. After all, I had high expectations, so maybe my perceptions were off. So I did a side by side taste test. The Bodum Santos against my old Krups automatic drip. I used the same coffee in both, same amount of coffee, same amount of water. (I fresh grind my beans -- a 50/50 blend of Starbucks Yukon Roast and Starbucks Colombian.) The taste test confirmed my perceptions -- the brew from the Krups had way more flavor than the brew from the Bodum. So it wasn't my imagination! I am very disappointed in this product. And considering the $120 price tag, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Also, it's not easy to clean. The electronics (heating plate, wires, etc.) are part of the carafe itself, and the wiring is not sealed to be waterproof. So you can't put it in the dishwasher. You have to wash it by hand. And even then, you have to be careful not to let any water get into the wiring compartment.
