The Bottom Line:  If you Love Coffee get it!
After seeing the Starbucks Utopia a few years back in action. I decided at that time that one day I would purchase a Utopia. However I had just purchased a new coffee maker from Switzerland at the time and could not justify another purchase.
In visiting a Starbucks recently I found that they no longer offered the Utopia for sale and thus I was off on a mission to locate the manufacturer (Bodum) who made the unit for Starbucks.
It didn't take long on the internet to find the maker of this unique Vacumm Electric coffee maker. I then had to find a company with the best price and who could ship my unit affordably to Hawaii.
Many retailers only ship via UPS or FedEx and this makes shopping online expensive for many of us in Hawaii as folks on the mainland (48 contiguous states) consider us a foreign country and don't even consider using the U.S. Postal service.
So I was able to find Jim at Cappojim.com who sent me the unit for 15.75 postage versus many others who wanted 45.00 plus to ship by FedEx. By the way USPS often uses the same planes to transport as FedEx and UPS do to Hawaii!
Unit arrived in great shape and I was off and running to create my ultimate cup of coffee.
It's now been a month that I've had the unit and I am just as pleased with it today as the first day.
It does use more coffee than I was used to using in the past, but the final product is well worth it!
Cleaning the lower unit has created it's challenges? But I've found if I put a drop of Dishwashing detergent in and swish around with water that I can get rid of those coffee oils that build up on the interior walls of the maker.
This does require one to make sure it is rinsed thoroughly though.
I've had no problem keeping the filter clean thus far but will be in the market for a new one soon just in case.
I've also recently acquired a Solis Maestro Grinder Plus which I will review at a later date, to use with this unit.
I've also bought an Alpenrost Home Roaster (Swissmar) to roast my own beans and thus far am estatic with the taste of my brew!
Being able to produce the "Best Darn cup of Coffee" I can enjoy without leaving home, has been my goal.
Until a better technology comes around, I think I may have stumbled onto it!
