This morning while standing on a chair searching the top shelf of one of our kitchen cabinets for an elusive blade for my mandolin slicer, I came across our Bodum Chambord 1928 8-Cup Coffee Maker.  Old faithful had been sitting there since October, 2005 when it was pressed (no pun intended)... Impress with a press, impressed with this press.

Pros Really GREAT coffee, well constructed, easy to clean, inexpensive.
Cons Very Minor: Plastic inner-lid, no graduated markings.
Recommended it? Yes

Caff-fiend. That's the proper term to describe me. I enjoy a good cup of coffee almost as much as, well… it's actually hard to describe it and stay 'PG'. That said, I've been searching for that perfect cup at home for a while now. My search has led me down quite a few roads of coffee... Read full review »

Pros No paper filter needed.
Cons Glass beaker can break.

Having purchased the new Starbuck's Via instant coffees I thought I ought to drag out my French Press. It's the utilitarian looking Bodum Chambord 1928.

This is an 8 cup size but you can make fewr than 8 cups if you so desire. I had it out when I noticed I only had to add Instant Hot... Read full review »

Pros Excellent coffee.
Cons It needs more attention than automatic machines.

The French Press, or press pot, is an example of simplicity that works wonders, and the Bodum Chambord is an example of that simplicity well executed. Combined with hot water, quality beans, and a good grinder the Bodum Chambord can make a superb cup of coffee.

This simple device is... Read full review »

Some consider the Bodum the King of Coffee Makers. But is it?

Introduction

Some people consider the Bodum Chambord Press the "King" of coffee making methods. Now, this claim has been made by many coffee methods, for example:

The Santos vacuum pot (a chem lab glass device that vacuums the brewed coffee into a waiting lower vessel)

I have tried 3 different Bodum presses, and they weren't worth writing home about.

I used and returned their Chambord, Melior, and Bistro Nuevo models. Well, I didn't actually use the Melior; however, when I saw it was essentially a Chambord, I sent it right back. There's absolutely no... Read full review »

Pros Really, REALLY good coffee.
Cons This is no fire-and-forget coffee machine.

That means, "The Coffee is Really Good" in French. At least, that's what an on-line translator says, and I'll trust it because...the coffee from this French press is really good.

Some background would be in order. I've been drinking coffee since I was in college. Back then I boiled it in... Read full review »

Pros It is easy to use.
Cons It was more expensive.

The metal frame "Chambord 1928" french press by Bodum is the best style that they make. It is elegant looking, easy to use and the size is perfect. I had the black plastic style of Bodum french press before, but it broke by accident and I, being a slave to my morning french press, had to replace it... Read full review »

Great coffee for one and for very little money

byepitestuser Jul 3, 2007

Pros small, cheap, stylish, and simple
Cons makes only one cup at a time. not good for a group of people.

I have one of these. I bought it instead of a more expensive, complicated and over-featured coffee maker because I generally make only one cup at a time. It is a great little press and costs nothing compared to a coffee maker, takes up little room and looks cool left out on the counter or up on a... Read full review »

Bodum Chambord 8 Cup Shatterproof French Press Coffeemaker, 1.0 l, 34-Ounce

The CHAMBORD Coffeemaker is the Original French Press. When Bodum took over a small clarinet factory in Normandy in 1982, it was not because of the fine orchestra clarinets they were producing but because of a relatively unknown coffee maker called the Chambord which they produced as well. The reason the French press coffeemaker has become one of the most popular coffeemakers in the world is pure and simple- taste. The materials are completely taste-free so nothing comes between your ground coffee beans. This is exactly the reason why coffee tasters use this method to determine the quality of coffee beans. The 3-part stainless steel plunger has a fine mesh filter, which allows for a premium extraction of your coffee’s aromatic oils and subtle flavors. A mesh filter allows this flavor to be delivered direct to your cup and not absorbed by a paper filter. Plus, no paper filter means no waste! The patented safety lid prevents the splashing of liquids while pressing. Simplicity works best and is the reason why the Chambord’s design has not changed a bit from its original drawing. This 8-cup model (1.0 l, 34 oz.) features a BPA-free, SAN plastic carafe which is shatter- resistant. Also available in 3 cup (0.35 l, 12 oz.), 4cup (0.6, 17oz.) and 12 cup (1.5 l, 51 oz.) size models.
