For the love of god, don't get this coffee maker! That is unless you enjoy being tormented and scalded now and then. That...
You wouldn't think it'd be that tough to make a pot of coffee in the morning, would you? I found out it can be quite an experience! I had decided to get a new coffee maker when I broke my coffee pot and couldn't find a replacement. So I went right down to Wally world to get good simple coffee maker.
Out of all the coffee pots at Wal-Mart I had to pick the worst one! I figured Black and Decker was a good solid name and it was a twelve cup coffee making brewing machine, fit for Tool Time!! I drink at least two pots a coffee a day. The price was what got me in trouble ($20.00).
Now the fun starts
Why would someone change the design that has been working for some thirty years? Of course I waited until the morning to try it out. Think coffee Pot has a hinge on the side of the filter holder. So no easy sliding filter holder here folks! I get to figure out some bone head design at 6:00 A.M. with NO COFFEE! By about 6:30 I have figured out how to unhinge the coffee filter holder and woke every body up while talking with the machine. Now it flat cranks out a pot a coffee! About five minutes into the brewing I tried the sneak-a-cup feature. As I poured the coffee about 1/2 made the cup while the rest shot down the pot, off the bottom and down my leg! I did manage a cup of coffee about 7:00 A.M. No one needs that kind of pressure in the morning!
Pros
It makes a good fast and large pot of coffee. It will wake you up in the morning one way or another!
Cons
The coffee pot pouring spout is a real bummer. Out of the twelve cups of coffee you will be lucky if you manage to get six cup in a cup! Similar to filling your cup up with a garden hose.
Learning to unhinge your coffee pot will take you some time. I suggest a few practice runs before you go to bed!
The filter holder mechanism is hard to use let alone explain. It has a nubbin on it and after you manage to get it lined up and in the groove, then the top will slide in. After that you can try to shut it.
Cleaning
The coffee pot is easy to clean. I just run a pot of vinegar through it and then a pot of water to clean the vinegar out.
Warranty
The Black & Decker 12 cup Versa brew comes with a one year warranty.
Conclusion
For the love of god, don't get this coffee maker! That is unless you enjoy being tormented and scalded now and then. That... um filter holder and the easy pouring garden hose spout really ruined my Black & Decker Coffee Pot experience!
