Action Muscial Comedy that works.
There aren’t many iconic images in film history that are quite as awe inspiring as seeing Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi sporting black suits, black hats, white shirts, black ties and the sunglasses. John Landis directed this epic musical comedy during 1980, and 32 years on the movie still... Read full review »

Buy the Blues Brothers
The Blues Brothers is a comedy in which two brothers try to collect money for the orphanage they both grew up in. They both go through many scams and ridiculous plans to get their old band back together. As they collect more of the band members they start to make new enemies, such as the state... Great soundtrack with some good laughs
"'Joliet' Jake Blues" (the late John Belushi) has been released from prison after a five-year sentence. His brother, "Elwood" (Dan Ackroyd) picks him up in a former black-and-white (police car) which he had bought at auction after trading the Bluesmobile for a microphone.
The first thing...

They're On a Mission From God - To Wreck the 80s
James Brown: "Do you see the light?"
John Belushi: "The Band!"
Dan Aykroyd: "The Band?"
John Belushi: "The Band!"
Dan Aykroyd: "The Band!"
Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the death of John Belushi, which is a good time to talk about The Blues Brothers, arguably...

I'm on a mission from God to review THE BLUES BROTHERS: 25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION DVD.
The idea seemed like such pure novelty from the get-go that when I first heard about it, I was expecting Dr. Demento to be the svengali behind it all. But before I was born, back when Saturday Night Live was responsible for providing early outlets for many comedic greats, two of them, a pudgy... Read full review »

So..... 1980! Blues Brothers!
Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi star as two iconic brothers who are blues singers "on a mission from God". They were orphaned as children and raised in a nunnery where they were rigidly taught the ways of God and Catholicism, but in adult life they couldn't make...

"We're On a Mission From God" (Quotes W/O)
This review is a part of Dean's "Quotes Write Off," where you review a movie and talk about why a specific quote in that movie is so important to the film.
On the whole, films based on Saturday Night Live characters and sketches are, well, a mixed bag. For every film that's worked...

They're on a Mission from God: Revisiting the Blues Brothers
After watching a series of hit movies featuring the comedic hurricane that is Will Ferrell, it is nice to return to a film like The Blues Brothers and watch the contrasting styles of former Saturday Night Live members. While John Belushi could have surpassed Ferrell in manic energy any day (see... Read full review »

"We Can't Get Caught, We're on a Mission From God!"
Ah, the Blues Brothers. It was one night at about three in the morning that I happened to be channel surfing. According to the TV Guide channel, nothing was on but infomercials and old movies. That's when I just happened to see that The Blues Brothers was on and since my dad said he liked it so... Read full review »
The Blues are a hit
I think this a great movie who like comedy that is so stupid its funny. I think it has many memorable chase scenes and when they cuss in front of the nun and call her a penguin I was rolling. I like when the Natzis are chaseing them and when they impersonate country singers. There are many amazing... Read full review »
wash your blues away!
I have three words for this film: Hilarious, hilarious, hilarious! This film may be old but it definately is a classic, I mean it has Aretha Franklin in it! This film does contain a lot of sereal jokes which you cannot help but laugh at! It's almost as if an action film has become entwined with a... Read full review »
Can You See The Light?
Back in 1980, cinema was suffering something of an originality crisis, resorting to churning out tired old spin offs of previously successful classics-to-be. With the triumphs of Halloween still fresh in the mind, studios began to rely on cheap imitations like Prom Night and Friday The 13th. Top of... Read full review »
Gotta get the DVD
I've seen the VHS movie many many times. My wife got me the DVD for Christmas. Wow. First, it's cool to watch the movie with everyone speaking Spanish. Better than that (can it get better??) is getting the full story. You find out just why Elwood is carrying around a can of epoxy. When they get out... Read full review »
The one, the only, the blues brothers!
Best Akyroyd and Belushi film I have ever seen. The Blues Brothers were originally an act of SNL, as many of you know. Belushi is Jake Blues and Akyroyd is Elwood Blues. Both do a wonderful job.
The movie starts with Belushi being let out early for good behavior. He is mad that Elwood...

Blues Brothers. I had always heard it was a great film....with the world record for the most cars smashed up in one film.
However, I didn't really realise how good it was until I watched it.
Now. It is a comedy, but a musical comedy with the emphasis on musical. If you love Blues and Jazz...

We're On A Mission From Gawd
Since I was but a wee pup and had no idea who Cab Calloway, James Brown or Twiggy were, this has been my favorite movie. Filled with great R&B music from many of the all-time greats, The Blues Brothers proves to be not only one of the few SNL movies with a discernable plot but also darn funny!

The Blues Brothers (Widescreen Edition) [VHS]
After building up the duo's popularity through recordings and several performances on Saturday Night Live, John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd--as legendary Chicago blues brothers Jake and Elwood Blues--took their act to the big screen in this action-packed hit from 1980. As Jake and Elwood struggle to reunite their old band and save the Chicago orphanage where they were raised, they wreak enough good-natured havoc to attract the entire Cook County police force. The result is a big-budget stunt-fest on a scale rarely attempted before or since, including extended car chases that result in the wanton destruction of shopping malls and more police cars than you can count. Along the way there's plenty of music to punctuate the action, including performances by Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, and James Brown that are guaranteed to knock you out. As played with deadpan wit by Belushi and Aykroyd, the Blues Brothers are on a mission from God, and that gives them a kind of reckless glee that keeps the movie from losing its comedic appeal. Otherwise this might have been just a bloated marathon of mayhem that quickly wears out its welcome (which is how some critics described this film and its 1998 sequel). Keep an eye out for Steven Spielberg as the city clerk who stamps some crucial paperwork near the end of the film.--Jeff Shannon

Blues Brothers 25th Anniversary Edition
In roles made famous by their famed SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE skit, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi star as Ellwood and Jake Blues in this extremely entertaining and successful comedy. Upon Jake's release from prison, the brothers are reunited and visit the orphanage they grew up in--only to discover that it is in danger of being shut down by the county for failure to pay taxes. With a little help from James Brown as a revival preacher, the Blues Brothers are divinely inspired to raise the $5,000 that the orphanage needs to stay open. On their mission from God, they must reunite their old band and raise the money by playing various gigs around town. The wild adventures of the band include dodging evil neo-Nazis, playing in a rowdy redneck bar, and narrowly escaping the crazed Carrie Fisher as Jake's ex-fiancée, who is out to see him dead. Finally, the boys have to get to a gig at the Palace Hotel Ballroom and deliver the $5,000 to the county assessor's office--leading to one of the most wild and hysterical car-chase s
