The BlueAir 402, possibly the best air cleaner
Pros
Eliminated my fall allergies during wildfire season with 6 cats. The best.
Cons
ok, the replaceable filter is environmentally friendly and expensive.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Only the top fan speed is audible. This filter proves itself even in a strip-mall store display.
I replaced my furnace about five years ago. Always regretted not springing for the electrostatic furnace filter especially after a huge wildfire a year later dropped ashes everywhere.
The BlueAir 402 might even be a superior choice.
I have six cats and am in the middle of a dusty remodeling project and need to be prepared for another California wildfire season and allergic houseguests.
A typical electrostatic air cleaner can release up to 0.05ppm of ozone output and still be rated safe by the Food and Drug Administration. The BlueAir402 actually lowers ozone levels, 0.003ppm, well below FDA limits.
Official test results show it decreases ozone concentration in a sealed room, with levels climbing again after the unit was shut down.

"The replaceable air filter cartridge is easily accessed and is made from non-toxic polypropylene plastic to trap particles. Polypropylene repels water and prevents bacteria, mold and mildew from reproducing inside the filter."

The power cord is detachable and plugs into a socket underneath this unit. Sleek and streamlined looking. All but the top speed is very, very quiet. 10 year warranty.
This particular model is rated to filter up to 365 square feet of floor space. I have a family, dining, kitchen area about that size. My allergies have improved. My eyes no longer water when I read the newspaper or a cat sits in my lap.
