Fitting (semi-) conclusion to an epic series
When I finished reading Arthur C. Clarke's Rama series, I believed that I had just read the greatest science fiction series ever written. While that is still probably true, Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars series (Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars is definitely a contender.
The series tells the...

Fail, Longevity Treatments, Fail!
'Blue Mars', the third (and final) book of a trilogy, is, in comparison to the first 2 books, 'Red Mars' & 'Green Mars', a letdown. I raced through the first two books; the character development was excellent, and the characters were written in such a way that you cared about them, & what became of... Read full review »
Great Ending to a Great Trilogy
Finally after a century and a half, Mars is experiencing many changes. This book tells the final chapter of the Mars trilogy. After years of exhaustion, the terraformation of Mars is clearly being seen. In Green Mars there were just plant life. But now the planet is strewn with genetically alterted... Read full review »
Another 750 pages ...
After 1,000 pages of Red and Green Mars, who wouldn't be ready for Blue Mars. After all it also won a Hugo Award. Again, the story follows the same layout as the first two books, lots of dialog, personal character development (the same characters plus a couple of Hiroko's kids), all leading to a... Long and thoughtful
Blue Mars is the third book of a trilogy, but stands up on its own. (I had read the previous two volumes, Red Mars and Green Mars, before reading this.) Robinson's interests include geology and terraforming, politics, character, and how they all interact.
This isn't the only science...

It takes red, green, and blue to make a complete spectrum
I think people expect a lot of sequels in general. The first 2 books were so well written, engrossing, and more importantly similar, that the expectation for the end of the trilogy was for more of the same. For me, the 1st 2 books blended together. Let's face it, 2 revolts, 2 space elevators, and... Read full review »
The Anticlimax - but fun anyway.
I found Red Mars in the store about a year ago. At the time I was looking for a heavy book to lose myself in - and did I ever find it! Red Mars was gripping, gritty and genuine. If I was planning a mission to Mars, this is how I would do it.
Green Mars was more of the same, with a twist. Now,...

Mars leaves me blue
It is a rare occasion to not finish reading a book. Only three novels have I not completed after reading the first 10 or so pages: Wizard and Glass, Diary of Anne Frank, and Blue Mars. They just bored me, simple as that.
The characters from Red and Green Mars who survive to Blue have gone...
