Blue Stinger for Dreamcast

Stranded by a bizarre meteor impact and surrounded by monstrous mutations, rescue agent Eliot Ballade must unravel the mysteries of Dinosaur Island--or die trying. As Eliot or Dogs Bower, a ferry captain Eliot meets early in the game, you explore the island and uncover the story behind the disaster. While most of the game focuses on solving puzzles and learning more about the meteor and its effect on the island, roaming zombies and huge monsters will keep you on your toes.

Blue Stinger - Mediocrity At Its Finest

byawoolcott Sep 1, 2000

Pros Resident Evil-type game, somewhat interesting, enigmatic story
Cons Bad camera, bad voices, quirky control, laughable animations
Recommended it? Yes

One of the first games released on Sega Dreamcast, Blue Stinger falls right into the category of "mediocre." It's not great, it's not terrible. It is still an enjoyable game though, despite the quirky (and cheesy) flaws. Just don't expect too much and you will be on your way.

Pros Graphics. Storyline. Gameplay. High-Tech weapons in Vending Machines...
Cons Un-Synced Voice-Overs. Camera Control at times. Not a true "survival horror"...
Recommended it? Yes

The very first game I purchased for the Sega Dreamcast was Blue Stinger.  In fact the game was released a couple weeks before the Sega Dreamcast Console was even available in North America.  I was so excited for the Sega Dreamcast to be released that I purchased and pre-ordered games as they became... Blue Stinger, not Resident Evil.

Pros they had some cool guns, cool bosses.
Cons voice acting is very bad, takes forever to save up money.
Recommended it? Yes

So many people said wow I'll get this game because it's like Resident Evil. Yet in RE (Resident Evil) you fight zombies, in this you fight monsters, and dinosaurs. Only one thing is played like RE and it is how you walk around, and how you shoot your weapons. That's it. Now if you read this review... Read full review »

Blue Stinger

Stranded by a bizarre meteor impact and surrounded by monstrous mutations, rescue agent Eliot Ballade must unravel the mysteries of Dinosaur Island--or die trying. As Eliot or Dogs Bower, a ferry captain Eliot meets early in the game, you explore the island and uncover the story behind the disaster. While most of the game focuses on solving puzzles and learning more about the meteor and its effect on the island, roaming zombies and huge monsters will keep you on your toes. Graphics are good--with nice flashy weapons effects--but not mind-blowing like Soul Calibur or Sonic Adventure. The Jump Pack accessory (sold separately) provides great tactile feedback when firing weapons or getting mauled by a monster--it seems to spend more time rumbling than not. While the fighting is a lot of fun, some players may be frustrated by the regeneration of zombies. It can get tedious to exit a room after killing all of the enemies, only to run into them again when returning. The game's viewpoint system also could be improved, as it occasionally leaves you fighting an enemy you can't see. Parents should note that Blue Stinger is a horror game, and the gore flows readily. All in all, while it doesn't build any new genres, Blue Stinger provides a solid gaming experience. Its flaws keep it from being a great game, but don't keep it from being a good time. --Aaron Karp Pros: Long gameplay Involved science- fiction/horror storyline Good balance between puzzles and action Cons: Occasionally awkward viewpoint system Repetitive enemy encounters
