It';s All About Tattoo Hairdo, Alan Rickman And A Cunning Lesbian Couple
I've seen this movie twice and let me tell you, it?s a nice way to spend ninety minutes of your spare time. Of course, it?s been expected something greater than ?nice? from the writer of The Full Monty and such a fabulous cast [note how I?m throwing ?fabulous? in my reviews; I think it?s time you... Blow Dry - Alan Rickman and Natasha Richardson play with scissors
Netflix Recommendations has a habit of serving me up odd little movies that I've never heard of starring actors I really like. Sometimes they're older movies, other times they were simply overlooked for one reason or another. In the case of Blow Dry, we have a movie filled with wonderful British... Read full review »
Blow Dry : Lots of Hot Air but it's all wet.
You might notice a pretty impressive (aka interesting) cast appears in the film Blow Dry. The almost always watchable Alan Rickman, Natasha Richardson, Rachel Griffiths , and new-comers Rachael Leigh Cook, and Josh Hartnett. The idea of a film written by the same bloke who wrote The Full Monty... Read full review »
Fun With Hair
Alan Rickman and Josh Hartnett in a comedy about English hair dressers? This I had to see. Rickman has proved himself to be a talented actor by playing characters in movies as different as ?Sense and Sensibility? and ?Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves? and, most recently, ?Harry Potter...? Hartnett... Read full review »
I Didn't Like My Haircut
I'll admit it - I have a soft spot for most British films. They have kooky characters, British wit, and almost always, a kind of blue collar sensibility most people can relate to.
Seeing this was written by the same guy behind "Four Weddings and a Funeral," I expected more, but was left with a...

Hair don't
Acclaimed Brit (and one Aussie) actors meet American teen idols in BLOW DRY, and with that demographic-spanning cast plus the art-chic labels of Miramax and "from the writer of THE FULL MONTY," it seems surprising that the hairdressing dramedy only received a very limited release and little to no... I Can't Stand Hartnett, BUT...
I know, it's an unpopular opinion these days, but I just don't get Josh Hartnett's popularity. He's an okay - but not great - actor, he's really not all that attractive, so why on earth is he the new Leo Dicaprio?
I'm not really expecting a satisfying answer to my question, so I'll just...

Blow Dry is unique, but I can't recommend it.
I basically had no intention on watching this movie but when I watched Six Feet Under I wanted to watch movies starring Rachel Griffiths and I came across this one. This movie definately shows how much style she has as a actress. She did as much as she could with her performance as a lesbian hair... Read full review »
Cut and Dry If You Please
Well, this is a pretty good comedy that makes you sit up and take notice. The plot is everyone is trying to compete in the British Hairdressing Championship. But there seems to plenty when this cast shows great performances. Alan Rickman is great as the abandoned husband, Natasha Richardson and... Read full review »
It Blows
Blow Dry features the wonderful Rachel Leigh Cook. Other than that, it is hard to find a good reason to watch this movie.
The movie is about a hair-styling contest that is held in a town in England. The cast features Rachel Leigh Cook, Josh Hartnett, Heidi Klum, Alan Rickman, and Bill...

Blow Dry [VHS]
Despite a gifted Anglo-American cast, Blow Dry strikes an uneasy balance between sentiment and camp. It aims for the same sort of high-wire act that Strictly Ballroom and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert pulled off so effortlessly, but melodrama wins the day. The comic moments are suitably over-the-top (as expected in a film about dueling hairdressers), but rarely as amusing as intended. The relationships between barbershop owner Phil (Alan Rickman), ex-wife Shelley (Natasha Richardson), and Sandra (Rachel Griffiths), "the other woman," could be more fully developed but are affecting nonetheless. The setting is West Yorkshire. The event that brings them together is the British National Hairdressing Championships. Phil initially resists the urge to compete as it reminds him of the success he and Shelley once enjoyed, but his son Brian (Pearl Harbor's Josh Hartnett) convinces him to give it a go. Hartnett and Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That), as the daughter of Phil's old nemesis, seem like peculiar casting choices for a British film, but Hartnett's accent is passable (Cook plays an American) and they don't embarrass themselves as much as supermodel Heidi Klum, who plays a tacky, two-timing hair model. The screenplay is by Simon Beaufoy of Full Monty fame. Although not up to that standard--and certainly no match for Shampoo (the greatest hairdressing movie of all time)--Blow Dry is still a good showcase for the talents of its three leads. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Starring Rachael Leigh Cook (SHE'S ALL THAT), Josh Hartnett (PEARL HARBOR), and Alan Rickman (GALAXY QUEST) in a great ensemble cast -- the Academy Award(R)- nominated writer of THE FULL MONTY has crafted a hilarious story about the things everyone wants in life: love, happiness, and great hair! As the National Hair Championships descend upon a small town in England, the country's top stylists aren't expecting much from the local talent. But they didn't count on Phil Allen (Rickman), the retired golden boy of the competition circuit, entering the fray! Also starring Natasha Richardson (THE PARENT TRAP), Rachel Griffiths (MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING), and supermodel Heidi Klum -- laugh along as the locals dazzle the out-of-towners with some hair dos ... and don'ts.
