When I was in graduate school, working on my MSW, I was assigned to work with a client who had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. One day, she tried to tell me what her world was like.

?I feel as if every day I wake up in a new place,? she said. ?What I felt yesterday, I... Read full review »

Blonde, by Joyce Carol Oates is a fictional look at Marilyn Monroe?s life. It is not a biography, it is a fiction novel based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. My argument is against "Blonde" the CBS miniseries based upon this novel, of which I was only able to tolerate the first part. The miniseries aired May 13 and 16 and... Read full review »

Norma Jean Baker was not Marilyn Monroe--she just played her in the movies. But the fact that she could never make anyone else understand that, least of all her husbands and lovers, aided in pushing a woman of already fragile mental health further to the edge.

This fictionalized biography... Read full review »

Blonde

In this ambitious book, Joyce Carol Oates boldly reimagines the inner, poetic, and spiritual life of Norma Jeane Baker--the child, the woman, the fated celebrity and idolized blonde the world came to know as Marilyn Monroe. In a voice startling, intimate, and rich, Norma Jeane tells her own story, that of an emblematic American artist-- intensely conflicted and driven--who has lost her way. A powerful portrait of Hollywood s myth and an extraordinary woman s heartbreaking reality, Blonde is a sweeping epic that pays tribute to the elusive magic and devastation behind the creation of the great twentieth- century American star.
