Don't waste your money on this piece of trash

When it is functional this maker creates great Belgian waffles.

The Bottom Line:
Recall waiting to happen. Junk
I would be against any one buying this product. I received this item as a belated Christmas present in January of 2005. By January 24 I had already exchanged it for a replacement model. Bear in mind that I am not making Belgian waffles for scores of people nor am I using this item every day.
The problem is in the hinge pin, a pair of which keeps the top half and the bottom half together. This pin is made of plastic and is circular with two half-inch long clip arms. These clip arms are very brittle and usually break within the third use of the waffle maker (say 10 to 15 waffles). As of this post I have just used my 4th replacement waffle maker for the last time...no real surprise because the hinge pin has broken and fallen apart). I exchanged the original twice for identical models at the point of purchase and once at Black and Decker corporate (this time you have to cut off the plug and send it to them to get your replacement). Plus between model 3 and 4, I called Black and Decker corporate and had them send me 2 pair of replacement hinge pins. So I have successfully retired like 10 of these hinge pins. So now I am off to request another replacement maker or even better a full refund.
