The Bottom Line:
This coffeemaker is a steal for under forty dollars. The machine is stylish. The stainless steel carafe keeps the coffee piping hot for hours. It is a perfect coffeemaker.
This machine was a steal for $35.00 at Lowe's. The stainless steel thermal carafe is beautiful. The black housing is sleek. The Black & Decker Thermal Select Coffee Maker is so user friendly. When you pour in your eight cups of water, there is a little red ball in the water reservoir to guide those of us with less than perfect eyesight. The water reservoir opens up and is accessible. Unlike many coffee makers, you can clean the water reservoir in this model. The filter basket swings out and is easily removed for cleaning. The design is cool and smart. The thermal carafe keeps your coffee hot without cooking it on a hotplate. Warming plates equal bitter coffee after twenty minutes. This is an affordable thermal unit that looks good.
The coffee from this machine makes your mornings perk. The coffee is made in just a few minutes. Programming this machine to make coffee before you wake is easy. After setting it, this model returns to the current time display. Bleary eyed, you can tell if you have piping hot coffee in the cool carafe because the little red ball in the water reservoir will be on zero. The coffee comes out really hot and full of flavor. I love this machine.
The second day I owned this machine I had to clean up a major mess. I woke up to eight cups of coffee on the floor. It appears that the paper filter folded and this caused a problem when the autobrew started. I now put in the filter carefully. I spoke with other people who owned different brands of coffee makers. These folks all had a folded filter/coffee everywhere story. Now that I take my time putting in the filter, I have not had any problems. I have owned this machine for about a month. I have made over a hundred pots of coffee. I love this machine because it looks stylish on the counter(it sits next to my espresso machine), makes great coffee, and is easy to operate. The coffee truly stays piping hot for four hours. I believe that this sturdy coffee machine will last me until my kids are grown. Unless of course, I break the carafe which has a glass lining.(So far, the carafe has survived the ride to work and back every day for a month.)
