Pros Fun, great variety, few parts, easy to clean
Cons On/off switch, need two hands
Recommended it? Yes

I really can't say how I first found out about this product (whether it was on TV or seen in the stores or a catalog) so Black & Decker's Marketing Department deserves kudos because I remembered this product and wanted it...BAD.

I love soft serve ice cream and this product seemed to fit... Read full review »

Pros Produces good soft serve; easily to operate & clean.<br>Makes low fat taste good.
Cons plan to use twice as much ice cream as you thought
Recommended it? Yes

I saw the Black & Decker Arctic Twister at Sears about four years ago and was intrigued. At the time I did not purchase it. After a little research, I decided to give it a try.  I purchased it for about $20 on Ebay.

I agree with the previous reviews on one point: You need to use a good bit... Read full review »

Pros It's an economical way to give your family ice cream treats
Cons Hard to store because of the size; noisy
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this on a whim and gave it to our family for Christmas this year........We've already gone through two 5 quart pails of ice cream and it isn't the new year yet! I figured for 16.99, if it did what it's supposed to for a year or so, I had gotten my money's worth out of it. If we go out for... Read full review »

Not really worth it; more looks than results

Pros Mixes in some add-ins (emphasis on SOME)
Cons Wastes too much ice cream; a pain to clean
Recommended it? No

We gave this to our kids (ages 9 and 11) for Christmas. Several components to assemble (actual twist part, handle that pushes the ice cream down, lever) and then disassemble didn't help clean up go smoothly. You need to soften the ice cream before using (we use the microwave) and freeze the twist... Read full review »

thinking about returning it...

Pros kind of fun I guess
Cons messy, a waste of ice cream, and expensive
Recommended it? No

this was a father's day gift for my husband who is a soft serve fanatic. We have found this item to be pretty much useless. It makes a mess, wastes a lot of ice cream and seems to work only with certain brands. It didn't work for frozen yogourt, or with low fat ice cream. I would sooner just soften... Read full review »

Pros FUN, Easy & versatile. Can even eat healthy & enjoy this product!
Cons small capacity, have to re-load often
Recommended it? Yes

Just got this machine and we love it! Thanks for all the good advice & tips from other reviewers on this website, because it worked like a charm. And it's SO much cheaper than buying DQ Blizzards or McD's McFlurrys (not to mention the price of gas for driving there to get them!) Read full review »

Pros mixes the mix-ins great, the build of the machine seems sturdy, nothing else
Cons not worth your time, ice cream melts fast, makes soupy soft serve! rinsing it out
Recommended it? No

I was wanting to buy this when it first came out, the idea was great! but I didn't want to pay the $69 for it. The other day, I found it clearanced for $11, so i bought it.
I'm glad I only paid that much for it, because it's not worth any more! The darn thing makes the ice cream all soupy, and... Read full review »

A fun machine at a kid's birthday party

byiowamike Jan 18, 2004

Pros Used less ice cream. Easy to clean in the dishwasher
Cons The switch was a little awkward.
Recommended it? Yes

This was fun. Each person got to build their own concoction. It added air to the ice cream so we actually used less than if we had just scooped it out.

We mixed in candies, mixed nuts, blueberries, and even walnut halves with no problems.

The last batch pushed out almost all of... Read full review »

DO NOT BUY THIS

bymedroog Apr 12, 2005
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful? Comment
Pros None
Cons Slow, difficult, wasteful, no special results
Recommended it? No

This machine is a waste of money and space. Takes A LOT of ice cream and time to get one serving. At least 3 minutes of squeezing for one serving- which is long time when you're pumping a handle. Doesn't change the ice cream in any significant way. Difficult to clean. Only yielded 3 servings from... Read full review »
