The Bottom Line:
Don't buy it, it doesn't last!
This waffle iron looks like the one my parents had and worked well for years. My wife and I carefully checked out waffle irons before we bought one - we thought we'd have it for years, too, so we thought we'd spend the bucks for it. This model cost about double what a 'regular' waffle iron does, so one would assume it would be pretty heavy-duty. Also, the fact that the plates are removable is KEY to being able to clean them when you're done.
We've had it about two years, and used it very infrequently (don't know about you, but we just don't make waffles that often). We've probably used it about 8 or 10 times total. A couple of uses ago, we were surprised by very poor non-stick performance. Waffles just wouldn't release at all. The last time we used it, not only would the waffles not release, but bits of the nonstick coating were coming off of the plates onto the waffles. Clearly, we couldn't eat the waffles, and the wife's parents were in town for Christmas, so we made pancakes with the batter instead. But we're pretty miffed by spending double what a regular waffle iron would be and about 10 uses later fail completely!
I've send an e-mail to Black and Decker and am waiting for a response. I'll try to update this when (and if!) I receive a response from them.
