Nonstick fades fast
Pros
reversable plates for flat grilling of grilled cheese sandwhiches and quesadilla's
Cons
non-stick performance is horrible.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I do not recommend this waffle iron. The non-stick faded after a dozen uses, and it is not safe to touch for children.
I purchased this waffle-iron based on the Cooks Illustrated review, which generally gave it positive marks. It is reasonably priced, and has the bonus of having reversable plates. (Waffles on one side, Flat on the other side for grilled cheese, quesadilla's, etc.)
The problem is that the non-stick on this model faded after only a dozen uses. The first few waffles came out well, though it would be nice if there were something more to indicate the waffles being done, other than the light going off. The waffles fully fail to release now and the last couple times we've tried to use it, even with a ton of oil, it was a big disapointment. Now it's just a big stuck mess.
I wonder if that is because we frequently use the flat reversable plate for quesadilla's? (The heating element may scorch off the coating????) I think our waffle-iron has now become our quesadilla iron, and we will be looking for a new way to make waffles.
This waffle maker has a nice mirror finish, but is definitely not cool to the touch, be very careful and only touch the plastic handles. As such, even though I do not recommend it for it's waffle making ability, I especially warn against it for anyone who has children who might accidentally touch the maker at all while in use, as it will leave a burn mark.
