The Bottom Line:
Unless you are curious about spending time in a burn unit, avoid this product.
I must return this item because it is unsafe due to its dangerously high exterior temperatures during operation. By my infrared measurements, the chrome surfaces exceed 450 degrees Fahrenheit, which is sufficiently high to cause severe burns to bare skin. The risk of igniting paper or cloth, which might come into contact with the device, is also present.
The extreme temperature of the exterior surface is caused by the complete absence of any insulation or refractive material between the heating element and the exterior sheet metal. It is no wonder that the temperature of the exterior surface, by my measurements, exceeds the cooking surface temperature.
Due to the abysmal design of this product, I believe existing units should be recalled and the model removed from the market.
