The Bottom Line:
A good buy for an aspiring arsonist.
I got this toaster oven as a present for my birthday, and was all excited at the prospect of making grilled cheese sandwiches without having to fuss with the big oven. I was also extremely pleased with the appearance of the unit - it is very stylish and doesn't take up a lot of space.
However, my elation completely disappeared after I actually turned the thing on. It gives off a very bad burning plastic type smell, and seems to get quite hot on the outside too. I inspected it for bits of packaging inadvertently left in and washed the tray and the rack with sudsy water as recommended - but the smell won't go away. I can't even return this thing, because it was given to me without a receipt, I believe, so it's simply going to be tossed out. I don't feel like burning the house down just yet.
I can't say how well or poorly the oven toasts or grills, because I'm not about to experiment with it further; I've had quite enough.
Another bad thing about this oven (as if there need to be any more) is cheap feel, cumbersome controls (turning three knobs just to toast a piece of bread?... please!), and some pretty bad design (no 'off' button, heating elements stay on even if the door has been open).
