The Bottom Line:
Great value for the money. A real workhorse.
We got a Wal Mart gift card one Christmas and I wanted a new coffee maker, one with the thermal carafe and timer. We were using a Bodum which makes great tasting coffee but can be a stretch first thing in the morning when your brain cells aren't yet firing properly. So there was the B&D, on sale for $50 at Wal Mart.
The first time we used it by programming it overnight for morning coffee the coffee had a metallic taste from the newness of the carafe, (yes I DID wash it first!). Now the inside of the carafe is seasoned just like a really good teapot and the coffee tastes fine thank you very much. You can't get 'Bodum' caliber coffee out of this but what do you expect? Sometimes I will even microwave a cup from the morning's coffee in the afternoon. It doesn't taste fresh made but not bitter and harsh either and still entirely drinkable.
It is easy to program. If you can set your clock radio, you can set this coffee maker.
I find if I fill the resevoire just up to under the overflow hole, past the ten cup mark there is enough for my husband to have a mug, fill the thermos and there is still a mug left for me.
The unit takes cone filters which makes for better tasting coffee than basket anyway.
