My Black & Decker SpaceMaker can opener is really doomed - it is doomed to forever sit down on the job! I received this "mount under the cabinet" can opener several years ago for Christmas and that very same afternoon, went to install it, replacing my old Black & Decker can opener. Even though they were the same brand, the holes did not line up! This meant that I would have to drill another set of four holes into my cabinet, so I just sat the can opener on the counter and it is still sitting there!
I lost the box, I lost the directions, I lost the template to drill the holes - I lost everything except the four screws. The only reason I didn't lose them is because they are hanging from the mis-matched holes! Real dumb looking, I have now taken them down.
My Black & Decker SpaceMaker Can Opener works wonderful! I have used it thousands of times and have not had the slightest bit of problem. It is very small in design, so even sitting on my counter, it is a space saver. It has a blade release lever and a blade sharpener located on the side (I use knives that do not need to be sharpened, so this has never been used.) It has a round magnet that fits on the lid top that prevents the cut lid from dropping down into the open can. It looks very sleek. It also looks very dirty!
So, I just finished washing up this "several year old can opener" and it looks brand new! The cutting blade is still in perfect condition and the little round geared (cogged) thing that turns the can is also in perfect shape. I really use this can opener all the time - I would have thought it would be showing some sort of wear and tear! But it doesn't - it looks brand new.
This can opener opens cans great the first time, and works very well for opening large cans of coffee. Now that it is clean, I probably won't find that it works any better - after all, how can you improve on a great product!
