Black & Decker Rice Cooker and Steamer
Pros
Effective, many convenient features and accessories.
Cons
Too small for large families, or big meals.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I Love my rice cooker! It is so easy and convenient, I can cook rice in less than an hour and it is well cooked and tastes great
I purchased my Black and Decker Rice cooker and steamer form a Wal-Mart in my hometown. I live on my own but like to cook with some of my family members that live nearby. I just needed something small enough to store easily and simple enough for my young niece to help me with it.
Since the cooker was only 14 dollars I didn’t expect it to be a great quality appliance but as I tried it I was deeply satisfied with the investment I made.
Accessories
· A Pamphlet with instructions in English as well as Spanish.
I have never owned a appliance that has a manual that is simple enough for a ten year old to understand but this state’s thing so directly there is no way to error while you are in the cooking process. It has specific instructions for different types of rice (Ex: Par-Boiled, Small grain and Pearl, Brown, Exc) this is a relief to me because my last rice cooker had the same instructions for all rice types and it was never foil proof
· A steamer basket for vegetables
· A steamer basket
This is for when you wish to cook two or 3 different kinds of vegetables at one time, this divides the tray so the vegetables don’t mix.
· Cooking bowl
This bowl has water level marks on it to indicate where to fill the water up to, depending on how much rice or vegetables are being cooked.
· A Serving Scoop for eatable contents.
· A rice measurement cup
This makes the rice cooking directions ridiculously easy as it allows you to make 2, 4, or 6 cups of rice.
Details of the Rice Cooker
· Cook and Keep warm switch
This rice cooker does not have a “On - off switch. There is a knob that can be pushed up to the “Cook” option; this is when everything is in place to cook or steam contents. When the knob is pushed down it is on a “Keep-Warm” option. This is really convenient because if you are still cooking sauce for the rice you don’t have to worry about over cooking the rice or letting it get cold.
· Indicator lights
When the rice cooker is set to “Keep warm” there is a light above and to the right of the knob, this light will be an orange color. When it is set to “Cook” there is a light above and to the left of the knob that will show as red. This is helpful because sometimes you don’t think to look and see what it is set on.
· Handles
These help a lot because they allow you to get a good grip on the cooker if it needs to be moved for any reason; also it is convenient that these handles never get hot enough to hurt.
· The Lid
In the middle is a handle that has a crevasse to put your fingers in. this allows you to have a good grip on it so there is no worry about dropping or breaking it. On the outer part of the lid there is a small steam hole. The best thing about this lid is that it also never gets hot enough to hurt adults or young children.
· Automatic safety feature
If there is not enough weight in the cooking bowl the rice cooker will not allow the knob to stay on the “Cook” option. This prevents it from getting hot while there are no contents in the rice cooker and protects it from getting damaged.
This thing is small but it can feed 4 people easily. Without a doubt this is probably one of the best purchases I will make this year.
