Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you like steamed veggies and rice, a relatively small investment in this machine will make your life easier!
I received this as a wedding gift just over two years ago. The thought of using a stove/pan to steam veggies or make rice seems downright primitive after using this baby.
Easy set up and clean up
Once you have your veggies cut up, you can have the machine ready to go in less than a minute. To make rice, the grains are mixed with water in a small bowl that sits inside the steaming chamber. After you're done, everything (including the sticky rice bowl) can go in the dishwasher (although the clear parts are usually fine after a good rinsing). Friends with other models of rice steamers have warned me about difficulties getting rice cookers clean, but even when I've left the rice bowl sitting overnight it comes out of the dishwasher squeaky clean.
User Friendly
There is one control on the machine--a simple timer that winds up, ticks down, and produces a satisfying "ding!" when your food's ready. One thing I absolutely love about the cooker is that they've printed a guide to cooking times directly onto the machine (no more searching for a user manual!). The only mishap I've had was a time I forgot to add water to the bottom bowl that heats the water to produce steam. As a result, the small heating nub is now slightly discolored; this has not impacted the machine's functioning.
Great value!
We got ours from Bed, Bath, & Beyond where it cost around $30-$40. Unless you want to drop 2-3 times the money on a rice cooker or are willing to spend hours scraping crusted rice goo out of a cheap machine, you aren't going to find a better way to cook rice. For cooking vegetables you can use a cheap steaming basket in a pan, but it's much easier to set the timer and let the machine do the magic instead of having to keep checking to make sure your veggies don't get overdone.
The bad/unknown
After using this machine for 2+ years, I have few negative things to say. The flavor scenter function (you put herbs on a little mesh tray below the food) is not worth using. It might make your house smell nice, but doesn't add any flavor to the food. I've never tried making meat (steamed chicken breast just doesn't do it for me), but think it would turn out fine if you followed the instructions.
