I Had Some Dreams, They Were Grounds In My Coffee
Pros
$18+tax @ Wal-Mart, Easy to operate, does everything it's supposed to do just fine.
Cons
My wife and I had an argument over the lyrics to that Carly Simon song.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A sleek and ergonomical coffeemaker with an easy access filter basket and detailed instruction manual. Very economical, sturdy and efficient.
After two years (to the month) our GE Coffemaker died a gurgling hissing death and now lies silent in the bottom of the dumpster. It was time to panic, for a morning without coffee is like sleep. A purchase was made, and mornings are back to normal. My wife even likes this one better than the GE coffeemaker because it is easier to load, and clean - the swing out basket makes access easier
An easy to read and follow directions manual is included.
The programming is accomplished with a touch of the "PROG" button to set the hours and minutes, a press of the "PROG" button again, (set time flashes) then a press of the "AUTO" button. After the initial auto brew time is set just push the auto button before going to bed everynight, (unless you want to change to a new auto brew time).
Once the coffee brews on auto, (or manually) the unit will stay on and keep your coffee piping hot for 2 hours. At 2 hours of elapsed time the unit will shut itself off.
There is a lifesaving "sneak a cup" feature that allows you to pour a cup of coffee without incident before the brewing is complete. Personally this is my favorite feature.
A sight gauge on the side of the unit allows you to see the exact water to cup ratio, which matches up to the caraf markings. Brews up to 12 cups.
During the brewing process, our particular unit makes little noise at all.
Make sure you have the unit plugged in, water in the resevior, and coffee in the basket to avoid having to read the troubleshooting section of the manual.
This leads to the Carly Simon lyrics of "You're So Vain" 1972. Back then I initially thought the verse went "...clowns in my coffee." A very compelling and unique verse on a quantum arcane level, but made no existential sense. How do you put a clown in my coffee? Sometimes I can act like a clown if I have too much coffee, I suppose. But after a while I came to believe it was, "...grounds in my coffee." Now that wording makes perfect sense on every level.
Well this morning my wife corrects me on this. She says the verse is, "...clouds in my coffee." That touched off an internet lyric search. Guess what? She was right, but "clouds in my coffee" doesn't make sense to me, clouds can't come down out of sky and land in my coffee. My wife says, "It's because you add cream and that clouds up the coffee." I believe Simon meant the verse to be more esoteric, but I'm sticking with "...grounds in my coffee."
This has nothing to do with the coffee maker, but is essential to understanding the title of this review. If you have grounds in your coffee after brewing, you most likely forgot to put a filter in the basket.
