The Bottom Line:
I love my Black & Decker CT06301 Toaster Oven with Convection Cooking and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a toaster oven.
About five years ago, my oven died. I don’t use an oven that often so decided to look for a toaster oven instead. I bought one that I did not care for so continued my search. Two years ago my mom got me a gift certificate for Bed Bath and Beyond. I went online and checked out the toaster ovens they had to offer. I found the Black & Decker CT06301 Toaster Oven with Convection Cooking and did some research. After a lot of research, I decided I would give the Black & Decker CT06301 Toaster Oven with Convection Cooking a try.
I had the gift certificate and Bed Bath and Beyond is always sending out coupons for 20% off any one item, so I waited for a coupon to arrive. With gift certificate and coupon in hand, I headed to Bed Bath and Beyond to pick up my new toaster oven.
The Black & Decker Toaster Oven was $69.99 but I don’t recall if that was regular price or a sale price. With my coupon and gift certificate, I didn’t pay anything out of pocket for my new toaster oven.
The CT06301 is a countertop convection oven and broiler. It has an easy to read digital display, 120 minute timer, and extra-large capacity for toasting, baking, reheating or broiling.
For me, the Black & Decker CT06301 Toaster Oven with Convection Cooking is the perfect size. It has a nice design and looks nice sitting on the counter. It’s a 1500 watt oven with digital heating settings. It has an extra-deep interior which accommodates a 12” pizza, which I was not able to cook in my other toaster oven.
Inside the toaster oven it has four rack positions and the rack is easily moved. The inside has a non-stick inner surface which is easily wiped clean.
The oven has a removable crumb tray that pulls out from the front and is easy to clean and replace. The convection fan is easy to use and is quiet.
I have made numerous items with my Black & Decker CT06301 Toaster Oven. I have made brownies, muffins, chicken, pizza, fish, roasts and much more. I haven’t found anything that I couldn’t cook in my Toaster Oven. I did try the toaster function once, but it took a lot longer to toast then my toaster. Personally I don’t cook toast or bagels in my toaster oven, I use my toaster for that.
My Black & Decker Toaster Oven has preset buttons. The buttons include toast, pizza, frozen snacks, bagel, potato and cookies. I have only used the potato button and my potatoes came out beautifully. Even though they are preset buttons, you can still adjust them, which is a nice function.
The exterior of the Toaster Oven does get hot, but I would think most toaster ovens do.
The Toaster Oven has a bake and broil function keys. I have used both. It also has a convection oven button. The convection does not work in broil mode, it only works in bake mode. I am not sure why it doesn’t ‘t but it doesn’t. I have used the broil function many times and it has also worked perfectly.
I have found when making cakes, brownies or a casserole in a large pan, it helps to turn the pan around about half way through the baking process to get an even bake. If you don’t turn the pan, the items still come out great, but one side will be a bit darker than the other.
You can choose to use the convection function. Just remember if using, you need to adjust your cooking temperature and sometimes the time. This is something I have learned with using my oven.
The Black & Decker Toaster Oven preheats quickly and beeps when it reaches your desired temperature.
The buttons are solid, well-labeled and easy to use. It has a LCD display that is easy to read. The only thing I don’t like it is when it is not in use, I wish the LCD would display a clock. Instead it just shows 00:00.
Another nice feature is that you can open the oven door during cooking and the oven continues to cook.
The Black & Decker Toaster Oven is made of a brushed stainless steel with black trim. There is no light in the oven but this has not been a problem. It has a glass front door which makes viewing your items easy. One thing I don’t like is that the door has nothing to stop it from swinging completely open. When I first got the oven, twice I pulled the door open and it flew open and hit the counter. You also have to make sure you have enough counter space for the handle to rest on when the door is open.
The Toaster Oven came with a broiler pan and rack and a pizza pan. I have used the pizza pan a lot. The pans are cheaply made but they have served their purpose.
The Black & Decker CT06301 Toaster Oven with Convection Cooking is easy to use. You first select the bake or broil button. The oven beeps at you when you select a button. Next you will choose the bake or broil temperature. Use the up or down buttons to get to the right temperature. If you hold in the up or down button it skips by tens. But it does go quickly. Each time you hit the up or down button, it also beeps. Once you have chosen the temperature you hit the time button. Once again the unit beeps and you will need to use the up or down buttons to pick how long to cook your item. Once you have done these two steps you can either hit the on button or hit the convection button (if using). If you choose to hit the convection button you will hear the fan come on. You then will hit the on/off button, which again, beeps at you.
Once the oven has hit your desired temperature, it will beep at you and you should then place your item in the oven. The timer will count backwards, showing you how much time remains. Once it gets to one minute, it counts down by seconds. Once the oven has completed the cycle, it will beep again.
If you need the oven to cook longer, you can easily adjust the time or the temperature while the oven is running. You cannot make adjustments while the oven is preheating though. You must wait until it has reached the temperature and time you programmed before making a change.
The toaster oven is suppose to remember the last temperature and time you entered. I've noticed that it does not always do this. This makes things annoying when you are cooking like a big batch of muffins and you have to reprogram each time you put another set of muffins in. It’s a minor inconvenience but a nuisance just the same.
I have had my toaster oven for about two years and the oven is still working great. I think I use my toaster oven more than I ever used an oven. It is convenient to use and it doesn’t heat up my kitchen.
The Black & Decker CT06301 Toaster Oven with Convection Cooking can be found at some department stores and specialty stores. I have even seen it online.
I think the Black & Decker Toaster Oven with Convection Cooking would make a great gift for a college student or a newlywed. It would even make a great gift for you!
