Black & Decker LE750 Edge Hog UPDATE

Pros Lots Of Power, Quite, No Gas To Mix, No Bad Emmisions Easy To Maintain..
Cons None
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you don't mind electric, why not go with this edger? Its powerful enough to get the job done without the bad emissions!
There is always something to edge, weather at the edge of the street, or the edge of your driveway. I should put a disclaimer out there, edgers are not meant to edge against blacktop. This is because there is no real edge against blacktop, edging it with a edger, will cause lots of sparks, and you will eat up your blade. You should edge your driveway, walkways, at the curb, and flower-beds, with a edger. You should edge at the street/blacktop with a weed wacker/trimmer.

The truth is, you see business's which have nicely edged lawns and wish you had the same. You use your weed wacker normally, but you notice that it never does an excellent job. So you are looking for something which is really good, that gets the job done, for not too much money. Well, so was I! lol

GAS VS ELECTRIC:
I found this edge hog to be very useful. For edging you do not need a gas-powered machine. Gas machines are loud, and require yearly maintenance. This edger has plenty of power for being an electric model. So much power in fact, I never bogged it down all the way. This is of course for home use only, not for a landscaping service, however I find it keeps up really well, and I maintain it too.

I bought this edger last summer and it lasted all through then. I have a lawn care service. And though its meant for the home,  I do not mind using it for landscaping service purposes, near the outlet. This edger is only $90.00 bucks. This is the best electric edger you can buy in my opinion.

CONSTRUCTION: I felt the construction of this edger was pretty durable. Though its made of plastic, its very tough, and won't break under normal wear and tear. Remember, its not all made of plastic though! The shaft that goes between the edger itself, to the handle, is made of steel. The electric power wire inside the metal shaft, is contained within 1/4"wire loom, so is well protected.

HANDLE: The handle is of a good design. I get a good grip while holding it, and overall, my hand is comfortable. I like the trigger on the handle, as it makes operating it pretty easy. It has a cord gripper in the inside of the handle, which keeps the cord secured, so that it is not pulled out of the machine, while operating. If you remove the wingnut and bolt, the shaft can be split apart, allowing the handle to fold up. This way it takes less space in storage.

BLADE: The steel blade that it uses has jagged teeth on it to help cut through the ground better. I find that these blades work pretty well, and they last quite a while too. There are marks on the blade which let you know when your blade needs to be replaced. And you can buy replacement blades for it as well.

ELECTRIC CORDS: I use it with two 100-foot cords together to equal 200 feet. Yes hulling that much of cord is a bit of a pain, however, it’s still easier than trying to maintain a gas edger. However, I do not recommend that you use more than 200 feet of cord. If you do, you might lose current and your motor will burn up due to loss of power from outlet.

OPERATING: The thing to keep in mind is, if you are edging a lawn that has not been edged in a year, you can expect it to take a while. I was edging this one ladies house with it, her grass was a foot over the driveway! What I like to do, is do a forward and reverse motion. Continuing to move back and forth, gives the blade time to cut through the sod and dirt.

When edging a lawn that has been edged once a week, or every other week, this edger works flawlessly, efficiently, and quickly. I still like to use the forward and reverse motion, but it does not take nearly as long. And it really leaves my lawn edge looking clean and cut. This edger has a depth adjustment via the front wheel and is easy to adjust to a different height.

FLOWER BEDS: When edging around flower beds, I find that it is easy to do, as long as I activate trench mode. You do this by grabbing the lever on the top of the machine, you move it over and push down. This allows you to make a nice deep cut, that is pretty even for the most part.

CLEANING: Most of the time, this edger will shoot out the debri just fine on its own. But, if your grass is wet, you can expect dirt and grass to clog inside the blade area. All you have to do is turn the knob and open the blade door. Use a screwdriver or you own hand, to clean out the debri.

CONCLUSION: I really like this Edge Hog from B&D. It has all the power I need and it works really well. I used this electric device to not only landscape a homeowner’s lawn, but I also used it to landscape a business. After doing so, there were never any complaints! This is a great buy! Go ahead and enjoy your Black & Decker Edge Hog!

UPDATE 08

Here we are 5 years later with this edge hog of wonders. lol

Believe it or not, absolutely no maintanance has been required except for keeping the machine clean and replacing the edger blade. I am really impressed with this edger, actually, more impressed with it then I was in the beginning!

Like I said before, it has all the power that I need, never needed more then what it could put out and its so easy to clean this thing. And I have had no electrical problems with it so far. Makes me wonder how B&D can make an excellent edger but make a pos pressure washer? Naa, don't worry, I aint bashing B&D, I like their products, I am just curious as to why?

Well, there you have it folks, still works great like the day I bought it, go out there and buy yourself a B&D!
