Nice at first, but a real pain after a while.

Pros Cheap
Cons Slow. Makes a mess. Makes a Mess. Makes a MESS.
Recommended it? No

I just deleted a review I'd written on this device several months ago. While other epinions members have suggested updating a review, rather than completely deleting it, I did so because I feel more members will be likely to read a new review, rather than a change to an existing one.

A mediocre grinder

Pros Does a good job of grinding the beans. Well constructed.
Cons Requires constant shaking. The output opening is too small.
Recommended it? No

Bottom Line Up Front: Pay a few dollars more and get the Capresso 551.
We needed a grinder at work and I'm a fan of Black and Decker. So when I saw this at Target I did not hesitate to buy it. The first time I used it I knew I had made a bad choice. The design of the hopper does not allow the... Read full review »

Blade Grinder Disguised as a Burr Grinder

byspamblot Feb 15, 2008

Pros Brushed stainless steel finish. Has a hopper on top and cord storage underneath.
Cons No better than a blade grinder, but twice the price.
Recommended it? No

I bought this grinder for only $10 (!), but I wish I could get my money back.

The packaging boasts precision milling system crushes beans for more uniform results. I have found the opposite to be true. (Should you care? Check wikipedia.org Coffee Preparation.)

Pros It works great. It grinds very fine without clogging. At least regular beans.
Cons You have to hold your finger on the button to grind.
Recommended it? Yes

I grind at the next to finest setting and have never had so much as a hiccup with this grinder. It is very reasonably priced and has worked flawlessly for me for 6 months now.

Well made, badly designed.

Pros Coffee beans get ground
Cons But not without much hassle and compensation for a poor design.
Recommended it? No

The grinding mechanism works really well. And that's about all I have to say that's positive.

The power button is in an inconvenient place. Because you have to hold it down until the beans are ground you have to grab the entire unit with one hand to hold it steady while you depress the... Read full review »

No Fine Grind

byreichleyusaf Apr 6, 2007

Pros easy operation, nice design
Cons Doesn't grind beans fine enough
Recommended it? No

Do not be fooled by the ability to choose which setting grind you prefer, for this grinder only seems to grind coffee beans coarsely.

However, I do think the design and easy operation of this grinder is worth the $20.

So if you're looking for an espresso grind, look elsewhere. Read full review »

Inexpensive but MESSY!

Pros Inexpensive and good looking.
Cons Messy and grinds unevenly
Recommended it? No

I bought this about a week ago and it is going back to Target in the morning! I used it for my morning coffee yesterday and again today. I had to clean the kitchen both times! Getting the ground coffee out of the little container takes skill. The coffee was unevenly ground. I set it on fine but... Read full review »

Pros small footprint

low price

attractive design
Cons small capacity

no timer so you must manually hold down the power switch
Recommended it? Yes

I was skeptical about purchasing such a cheap grinder ($20), particularly a Black and Decker (having had disappointing experiences with other B&D products) however my low expectations have been exceeded with this product.

We have had this grinder for 18 months and have used it hundreds of... Read full review »
