The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a small food processor, I would recommend the Black & Decker HandyChopper Plus 1.5 Cup Food Processor. It gets the job done!
I wanted a food processor. I didn’t want a big one as I didn’t think I would use it if I had to dig it out of a cupboard and it had a bunch of gadgets. I wanted a small food processor that I could keep on my counter top. I was shopping at Wal-Mart when I came across the Black & Decker HandyChopper Plus 1.5 Cup Food Processor. It was on sale for $5.00 and I had a coupon for $5.00 off any Black & Decker product. So for free I had to try it. Even if I didn’t like it, I wasn’t loosing anything. Actually I had five coupons so I bought five of these processors and gifted the other four.
The Black & Decker Processor is a one-touch chopper. It is small and white. It only has one chopping blade which will dice, chop or mince foods. It has a clear bowl and cover. The bowl will handle up to one cup of food.
I mainly wanted a chopper to dice vegetables and make things like egg salad. To operate the chopper you must lock the bowl in place, plug it in and press the on/pulse button and your chopper will start to chop away. Once you take your finger off the button, the chopper stops. It is recommended you not run the chopper longer then intervals of thirty seconds.
It is a bit inconvenient to hold done the button to get the processor to run, but it would be nice if it locked into place. But this is just a minor inconvenience.
The hardest thing for me was knowing when to stop the processor. I would either process it too much or not enough. It’s easy to rectify if you don’t process it enough, just push the button to get it to your desired consistency. But if you over processed, you are out of luck. You can’t put it back. This took some playing around with and I still have problems at times. But with things I normally chop, like onions. I have gotten it down pat.
If cutting vegetables, you need to cut the items into chunks and then place into the bowl for processing. Items like carrots and celery are a bit hard to get to a uniform consistency. It seems I often have some bigger pieces then others.
The Black & Decker Food Processor will not process coffee beans. Believe me, we have tried and we just can not get it to work.
The Black & Decker Food Processor came with a one year warranty which I did not have to use. I have had my food processor for about five years.
The HandyChopper is easy to clean. Just wipe the base with a damp cloth. The bowl, lid and blade is dishwasher safe.
The HandyChopper fits nicely on my countertop. It measures 6x8 and stands about 6” high. I wish it had a retractable cord but it doesn’t.
It is nice that the chopper has a the safety feature of not working unless it is locked in place. This keeps accidents from happening.
I found the HandyChopper Plus at Wal-Mart. I haven’t looked recently for it but assume you can still buy it in stores and online. I think it would make a nice housewarming gift or wedding present.
