Smartbrew - smart choice.
Pros
Simple, easy to work/clean, inexpensive coffee maker and aesthetically appealing!
Cons
Coffee is not HOT immediately after brewing...
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Well-designed and inexpensive coffee maker.. I love it!
I purchased the Black and Decker Smartbrew Coffee Maker as a replacement to a former Black and Decker model. This one has everything I ever wanted in a coffee maker!!
-nice to look at
-easy to clean
-easy to use
-large capacity (12 cups)
-pot doesn't leak onto counter as you pour
-includes 'sneak a cup feature'
-makes great coffee
-good price ($19.99 at Target)
I really appreciate all these features! I hate an ugly appliance on your counter.. this one is modern and has clean lines. I wash the carafe and basket in the dishwasher without a problem. The 'sneak a cup' allows you to pour a cup of coffee whilst it brews! (It suspends brewing until you replace the carafe.) Easy to read marks on the carafe allow for accurate water levels, which are also shown on the appliance once you fill it. I am not one to require a clock on my coffee maker, I can readily see the time on my oven, microwave, wall, wrist, etc.. so I do not miss this feature. For those who prefer the auto start/clock features you will need to purchase the next-up model. Additionally, no more spills on the counter!! Believe it or not this is a flaw prevalent in carafe design! (Somehow the lid interferes with the pouring and unless you lift the lid as you pour coffee spills over the top). Finally, simplicity. It has one button: on/off.. can't get more simple than that. (It illuminates 'red' in on position).
My only con is my husband and I have noticed the coffee isn't exactly piping hot immediately after it brews (We tend to nuke our cup 1/2 a minute or so) but if you wait several minutes after brewing the temperature is sufficient.
