Perfect for young kids, but not durable
Pros
Portable, powerful, fast emergency cleanup
Cons
Our first one did not last that long before leaking.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Buy it for spot cleaning, to complement your large rug cleaner. I am not aware of anything else on the market that is as portable.
The Bissell Spotlifter is a hand carried, battery-powered carpet cleaning machine. The batteries are charged with a charger that plugs into the wall. A convenient wall hanger is included in some models to store it when charging. There is a removable compartment that is filled with a mixture of cleaning solution and water. To clean a spot of the carpet: First turn it on with the on/off switch to start the vacuum. Depress the trigger and a spray nozzle shoots the cleaning mixture into the carpet. The solution is quickly sucked out of the carpet and into the spotlifter leaving behind a clean carpet. There is a second removable compartment where the dirty solution ends up that must be emptied after use.
This is perfect for cleaning the small spills and accidents of kids. We have a 3 year old and an 18 month old plus a dog. We really don't need it for the dog, but the kids! The Spotlifter makes quick work of milk and juice spills. The portability is its best feature. We keep it always at the ready -- plugged in, charged and filled with cleaning solution. If there is a potty training accident or one of the kids barfs, we are ready.
It is not for cleaning large areas, "Spotlifter" is the perfect name. The charge in the batteries is matched well to the amount of cleaning mixture that it holds. When you're out of fluid, the batteries are starting to loose charge. The Spotlifter has capacity to clean at least the following: full glass of milk, 4-year old peeing on floor, toddler barfing, carpeted drivers footwell of small car. The suction is quite good, so the carpet dries quickly after cleaning.
We ended up buying a second one because the first one started leaking from the dirty solution compartment after about 2 years of use. We could not find another brand that was portable like the spotlifter. The new one looks like that compartment is redesigned, maybe not for durability but for easier rinsing.
HELPFUL HINTS:
1) You can buy replacement parts at www.bissell.com and on ebay instead of replacing the whole thing.
2) We were able to use carpet cleaner from other brands (not just from bissell)with this and get good results.
3) Our second one did not include a wall mount, they are also available at www.bissell.com
4) Always rinse and empty the dirty solution container right after use or it will smell terrible!
5) It works good in the car too.
