Very Unpleasant Experience
Pros
When it works, it works good. Quick and cleans nicely.
Cons
Once it clogs, it never works right again because it's almost impossible to clean.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Buy a cleaner that can be cleaned easily if it clogs, especially if you are a pet owner.
Both my parents and myself have one of these units, I was given one for Christmas. I have a dog which sheds quite a bit, and no matter how much vacuuming I do, some hair is always in the carpet. Unfortunately, when this cleaner gets clogged, it never gets unclogged. I tried to clean it myself, but it's impossible to get to several areas without completely dismantling the unit, which itself is a daunting task. I gave up after the number of screws I'd removed exceeded my ability to remember where to put them back, and I still hadn't gotten inside the unit. Now it only works sporadically.
Other problems include the inability of the cleaner fluid bottle to hold fluid. After turning off the unit, cleaner fluid leaks out onto the floor. The hand unit never wants to stay in its holder, falling out while you are trying to vacuum, which gets VERY annoying. Finally I put a piece of wire around it to keep the hand attachment from falling free.
The unit is quite large and heavy, but I cannot fault it for that. What's surprising though is that it still "feels" flimsy, like the plastic is going to crack. To be fair, this has not happened yet, but it feels that way. It's black, so it's hard to keep looking presentable unless you wipe down the unit periodically.
The instructions clearly say that you must thoroughly vacuum your carpet before using the steam cleaner. If you are a pet owner, it may not be possible to get it vacuumed enough not to clog this cleaner. It ought to be a moot point however, would this device had been easy to clean. When I replace this carpet cleaner, I will make sure to choose one that I'm able to disassemble to clean. Not recommended.
