When The St. Bernard Started To Shed The $6 Thrift Store Vacuum Had To Go!

Pros Bagless, cord length, ease of use, price
Cons Lots of parts to clean/replace, sounds like a vacuum
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Anything would beat what I was using before and the Bissell Clearview Bagless 3591 Upright definitely does the job so although it has some negatives I would recommend it.
My six dollar thrift store vacuum did just fine until my dog started to shed. That was when I knew I needed to replace it as soon as possible.

Not wanting to spend more than one hundred dollars and looking for something that would do the job and last I set out to the store for my first real vacuum. Not being the type to spend too much time inside let alone cleaning I was shocked at the choices and could not tell you what the differences were. Luckily at the second store that I went to there was a nice comparison chart. I selected the Bissell Clearview Bagless 3591 because it seemed easy to use, was in my price range and as neat as they looked, it didn't have lots of extra gadgets for me to loose or break.

The first thing that I noticed that I liked was the weight. It was easy to lift into the car.

The cord length of 35 ft. is definitely a plus because I can vacuum my entire apartment without changing outlets. It would be nice if the hose was longer as I tend to tip the whole thing over trying to reach things up high. Another negative about the hose is that it doesn't seem to have much suction power and leaves a lot behind.

As far as overall suction it seems to do the job. It was embarrassing how much yuck my old vacuum left behind even using it for the last time right before I tried this one. Emptying the dirt cup is pretty easy although it does need to be done frequently and is a little hard to get all of the dust out especially of the upper portion.

The second time I used this vacuum I used some deodorizer powder and that did not work as well. I thought at first that the filters needed cleaning (and they did) but even after that I need to go over it again and again to get the powder up.

The filters seemed to be a good idea and replacements are not very expensive. The pre-motor filter is very easy to slide out and remove. Rinsing the filters and reusing them takes some time as they are hard to get all the dirt out and seem to fall apart if you aren't gentle with them. Replacements can be ordered from Bissell for $1.50 and they recommend changing it once a month. I usually need to clean mine every other day. The HEPA filter is also very easy to snap out and seems to last much longer. I have found these replacements to be least expensive at Walmart where they are about $8. I am not used to spending this much on filters but taking in to consideration how much I was spending on bags, it is worth it. Belts are only about a dollar apiece and easy to find.

The width or cleaning path on the Bissell Clearview Bagless 3591 is not as large as other models but I prefer the 14.5 in. cleaning path so that I can vacuum around all of the furniture in the small apartment without having to move anything.

The headlight is brighter than I have seen on other models although it too needs frequent cleaning it makes it easy to see all of the dirt under the dresser but it is too tall to get under there, I guess that is what the hose is for.

Now if I can figure out a way to get the dog to move so I can vacuum under her I will be set.
