Bissell 3591 Bagless Upright Vacuum

I bought the vacuum in 2000 at Sears for about $160 - $170. It's been put to plenty of use and perhaps some abuse - sucking up more than its share of dog hair, actually two dogs. The bagless system works well, removing and cleaning the container is very easy. The light in front of the vacuum head comes in handy. If I had to find a fault, it would be with the attachments. The hose is not as long as I'd like it to be, and there aren't many attachments in general. Another bad thing is that when you use an attachment, the roller continues to spin. This also seemed to make the attachment have less suction. So after 7+ years of faithful service, I noticed the first sign of mechanical wear and tear. The vacuum now sounds like you're standing next to a turbine engine. I checked everything I could, the roller, filters, blockage, and couldn't find a cause. Maybe it's time to retire this one.
