Gets all the fur! Not sure if it's the best choice for hard surfaces
Pros
Powerful suction, easy to empty, easy to maneuver, suction tools work!
Cons
May not be great for hard surfaces, a bit bulky and loud
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Excellent vacuum for pet owners who have carpet. Good for pet owners with hard surface floors who need the extra tools to get rid of pet hair.
Why I Chose It:
I chose this vacuum because I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and he sheds all year long. Even though we have hardwood floors, cleaning is still an issue because we have to do it everyday or else globs of fur will accumulate under the furniture. I usually Swiffer or use my Eureka Quick-Up, but those methods are a pain to clean-up. I wanted something powerful, easy to empty/clean, and I also wanted accessories so I could vacuum the furniture too. I saw the Bissell commercial on TV, saw that it had really great ratings, but I didn't find many reviewers who had experimented with it on hardwood floors. Still, all the positive feedback convinced me to give it a try.
Assembling It:
Assembling it was just a tad bit difficult because the instructions were pretty much all description with very little pictures, but a little common sense sorted it out. It took me less than 10 minutes to put all the parts together.
Accessories:
There are two main accessory tools, aside from the normal given ones, that were designed to pick up pet hair. One is the Pet Contour Tool, and the other is the Pet TurboBrush. I must say, I absolutely love the Pet Contour Tool. It's a suction head that has rubber bristles all around, and a few openings in it that sucks up hair. It really picks up every last piece of hair from our couch. I also used it on my dog's bed and it picked up everything as well (A side note: the instructions clearly tell you to never use these accessories on your pet, which most of you know, but in case there's anyone out there who might be confused because there's the word "Pet" in front of the names...it will definitely hurt your pet, so don't try it).
For those of you who have carpet, there is a Pet Hair Lifter feature, which is basically a panel at the front of the vacuum that grabs pet hair like a lint brush. It seems like it would work well with carpet, but if you're like me and you have hard surface floors, you can release the panel and flip it up so that it doesn't gather fur while you vacuum.
Cleaning-up:
Emptying the canister was unbelievably convenient and easy. All I had to do was slide the lever to unlock the canister, and it became loose, making it easy for me to empty all the dirty stuff into the garbage. I didn't have to get my hands dirty or breath in any dust. Putting it back was equally easy. I just made sure the canister was aligned in place and I pushed the lever back to lock it.
Overall Performance:
As for regular vacuuming on my hardwood floor, I'd say it did the job, but I know this vacuum was more intended for carpets. I can see how dust might get spit back out again from underneath the vacuum because the bristles continue to rotate even when it's set on "bare floor" setting. However, I haven't encountered that problem yet, and it seems to pick up everything fine.
Conclusion:
So far, this vacuum has impressed me. I must admit that it's on the heavier side and it's more loud compared to my other vacuum, but then again, this one is WAY more powerful, and it comes with accessories just for pet hair cleaning. It's also really easy to maneuver so the weight shouldn't be a problem. I would say there are lighter and more suitable vacuums for hard surface floors, but the accessories on this one really make my purchase worth because it removes pet hair like no other vacuum I've had before.
I would definitely recommend to people who have carpeted floors.
I would recommend to pet owners who have hard surface floors if they really need a good vacuum to get hair off of their furniture and fabrics.
I wouldn't recommend to people who have hard surface floors and only intend to use it on their floors. Only because the possibility of dust kicking up might be a potential problem.
