The Bottom Line:
When compared to the price of other cleaners, this can be a good choice for value. But be very careful handling it as it breaks easily.
I purchased this item from our local Costco four years ago. I was really impressed with how well it worked. Combined with a good spot treater, it could lift just about any stain out of our light colored carpet. We even had two very hairy dogs and it was able to keep up with them (and not get clogged up by dog hair).
On short pile carpets, it extracted the dirty water up very nicely, leaving them nearly dry at the completion of its use. We moved into a new home that has cut berber, and while the extraction is still decent it was much more effective on a shorter pile carpet.
My only complaint with the water tank system is that because of the bladder being inside the dirty water area, it was very hard to rinse the dirty water out well. I never had any problems with leaking.
Unfortunately, the durability is not there with this product. We replaced some parts including the belt, but eventually it became un-repairable. It seems the housing of the unit is made out of inferior plastic, and the screws that hold it all together break out of their plastic housings and this cannot be fixed. Once the housing won't fit together tightly, you can't obtain suction and so it won't dispense water or cleaning solution.
If you choose this machine, I would be extremely careful in handling it. It does do a nice job and is reasonably priced, but the least little bit of trauma will render it useless.
