One of the worst purchases we ever made
Pros
Very light and easy to use. Seems to do a good job...when it isn't broken.
Cons
Extremely fragile plastic parts in the beater mechanism.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Because of the extremely high failure rate, I would never recommend this unit to anyone.
The Proheat Pro-Tech 7920 carpet cleaner seems like a great idea at first glance and the price point make it seem like a very reasonable purchase. It turns out the old adage, if it seems to be too good to be true, it usually is. That has never been more true with these cleaners. The plastic parts used in the high-wear areas like the beater bar mechanism are extremely fragile and fail with very little use or effort. 60% of the time, we were not able to complete the job we started. 60% of the time, we ended up renting a cleaner to finish the job because of part failures in that area of the unit.
The first time we used it, the plastic gearing that drove the beater bar striped. It had to be fixed under the warranty. The 3rd time we used it, the belt broke and we had to replace it. The 5th time we used it, the swing arm plastic melted and welded itself to the beater bar. Both the beater bar and swing arm had to be replaced (no longer under warranty at this point...of course). In all three cases, we were in middle of cleaning the carpet and had to get another unit to finish. This level of failure is simply unacceptable. I plan to fix this unit and sell it for whatever I can get for it. We will never rely on it again.
