Great vacuum but has some flaws

The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this vacuum to a household without pets. But would advise against homes which have alot of traffic and/or pets.
I should begin this with the fact that we own a giant breed long haired dog. So, we go through vacuums quite a bit faster than a normal household.
We bought this 18 months ago and absolutely loved it for several months. It has great suction, is versatile and made the house smell cleaner, not to mention that my allergies got much better.
However, about 4 months later, when we started getting "wet dog" smell coming out, I changed the HEPA filter and cleaned out the additional spongy filter. It helped some. I found at this time the worst flaw I have seen in a vacuum. You do not have access to fully clean the canister. While there is some amount of leverage to opening the canister (from top and bottom), the upper most part collects dirt at an astounding rate and it is virtually impossible to get clean. I end up banging the top over the trash can to try and get some of it to fall out. It still does not empty completely and is terrible on my allergies. You can't submerse it in water in order to clean all the nooks and crannies. I even took to trying to break into the top part with a screwdriver and determination. To no avail. I think the only way to get a really dirty vacuum canister clean is to take it in for servicing. Our wet dog smell has never full gone away and it is time for us to look for a new vacuum.
My opinion would be that if you don't have pets, or long-haired pets, this would be a very good investment. Otherwise, expect that you will have to buy another in the not too distant future or have it cleaned professionally. No amount of filter changing or filter cleaning will get rid of the lingering pet smell.
