Dissapointed by the Bissell 3750 - in 500 words or less

Pros Neat design, makes cleaning some areas easier.
Cons doesn't meet typical household needs and requires too much maintenance.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  The Bissell 3750 needs to be redesigned because it clogs on simple debris. Although decent for small apartments, its not going to meet the needs of most households.
The Bissell 3750 is a vacuum cleaner that FAILS to be a winner, due to its design,  which attempts to compromise between floor cleaning and stair cleaning, but, manages to raise several problems while doing so.

The 3750 is part of Bissell’s “Lift Off” model line where the vacuum compressor, the HEPA filter and the bagless dumpable canister are contained in a handheld motor unit so that the user can take it up the stairs, use the hose and attachments to clean tight/confined spaces,  and then dock it with the main vacuum body to continue cleaning regular floors as a regular push vacuum.

Its an intelligent, ambitious design, which works in some situations, but for the average carpeted household, it simply does not offer enough to make it the main go-to vacuum for heavy duty cleaning.
The main problem is that the unit relies on a long hose to pull debris from the base of the machine several curved points into the main chamber. Along the way, debris is easily jammed in the flexi-plastic material of the hose. This means that for most carpets, you’ll end up having to manually remove debris continuously.  The suction over the 3 foot distance  is not strong enough to handle furballs  or clumps of dust.

I do like the fact the units powerful brush motor is able to pull the vacuum along most carpeting – which helps mask its 21lb mass, and that the height adjustment makes cleaning thick or thin carpets and even floors easy, but again, if you are dealing with debris larger than dirt or dust, you will be in for constant manual declogging.
Another annoyance I had with the 3750 is that the main assemblies handle must be screwed on when you take it out of the box – which decreases its shipping length. Unfortunately, the handle can get loose and the screw areas worn over time which can lead to the handle feeling as if its about to break.

The 3750  has 3 main replacable filters  which you can buy on Ebay or in the store selling it for less than $20. Unfortunately, these get clogged with dust really fast (within 10 uses). I’ve manually cleaned them with hot water and reused them with no trouble since I don’t have animals in the house.  Hot water is enough to wash the plastic canister out after dumping the contents.

So who do I recommend the 3750 for?

If you need a shop vacuum for sawdust, or for nothing more than granular dirt or dust, the 3750 might work fine for you. If you have thin heavy duty carpet, it might also be an OK choice. However, for people who have thick carpets all over the house, the 3750 isn’t the best.

Any material you may get up with the HEPA filter will end up right back in the air when you have to declogg it.
