Yes
The Bottom Line:
Provides an easy solution for keeping upholstery clean of pet hair and removes even the most embedded hair. A low price tag makes this vacuum extremely worth it!
When my husband and I recently moved, one of the items used to entice me into liking the new house (to say I loved our current house is an understatement) was the promise of new furniture. We're the proud parents of five (small!) dogs, so what was the sensible thing to do? You guessed it; purchase a large white couch.
Alright, it was in a stain-resistant fabric, and in the six months of ownership has held up to muddy paws quite well. One thing it's a magnet for, however, is dog hair.
I've found that the short coats of our Boston Terrier and French Bulldog are the main offenders; their needle-like fur embeds nicely into the boucle fabric of the sofa.
I had managed to get by on cleaning our old couch with a combination of a Scotch Fur Fighter Hair Remover, a sticky roller, and then the shop vac a few times a year, but I quickly realized that this wasn't going to work for the new couch. The boucle fabric was immune to the Fur Fighter, and I was blazing through an entire jumbo sticky roller in less than four weeks. Embedded hair still remained.
Another conundrum is that we don't own a full-fledged vacuum since our house is all hardwood and tile (we use the Electrolux Ergorapido for basic cleaning) so a pet hair attachment for the vac was out of the question. I needed something that was small and easy-to-use that provided the power of a shop vac. That's when I discovered the Bissell 33A1 Pet Hair Eraser Corded Handheld Vacuum Cleaner for around $28.00 on Amazon.com.
What Bissell Claims:
-Measures approximately 10 by 5 by 8-inch; 1-year limited warranty.
-Dirt container; washable hepa media filter and filter screen
-Easy-grip handle; fingertip-access on/off switch; cord wrap
-Interchangeable hard nozzle and flexible rubber contour nozzle
-Handheld vacuum cleaner designed specifically for pet hair pick-up
What I Found:
The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser came completely assembled with the rubber nozzle in place. The hard nozzle and instruction booklet were also in the box.
The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is a corded vacuum, which is both a positive and negative. The positive is that there is no waiting for a recharge, and the direct power delivers a powerful amount of suckage. The negative is that it doesn't make it quite as mobile as a cordless hand vac but it does come with a nice and long cord that makes it easy to maneuver between several pieces of furniture without unplugging.
The vacuum is turned on through a switch located in the handle that can easily be operated with your fingertips. It's lightweight enough that it won't wear out your arms, but heavy enough to not feel flimsy.
Once on, I swipe it back and forth across my furniture while applying moderate pressure. The flexible rubber nozzle has nubbies on it, which helps to lift hair out of the fabric so it can be sucked up. It easily picks up what a sticky roller would, and gets out embedded hair with a few more passes and a little more pressure.
It is fairly loud while operating, but not nearly as loud as a shop vac.
One downside is that the blower is located on the sides of the vacuum, so if you're using it to pick up any crumbs, you have to come at them straight on otherwise everything gets blown everywhere.
The vacuum is bagless and emptying the container is very simple; just pull it away from the container, separate the filter from the container, and empty. I'm always amazed by how much hair is in the container!
I haven't had a use for the hard nozzle so I can't comment on it's use. I do think the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser would also work excellently when cleaning out the car, but I have yet to test it out.
My Conclusion:
I needed something more substantial for pet hair cleanup and the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser delivers. It's easy to use and gets out even the most embedded hair in my couch. I'm also no longer wasting money on disposable products like sticky rollers. For $28.00, I consider this vacuum to be an excellent deal!
