If you are familiar with the story, of the blind men describing an elephant, by feeling its different parts, this would help you understand The Bicentennial Man.
There is a little here for everyone; Science fiction, comedy, romance, drama, and a typical Robin Williams performance. Ultimately this is the major problem with the movie. The scope is just too nebulous. Along with all of these elements, it covers a two hundred year span.
Almost everyone will find something to like, but will probably be disappointed, that it was not as good as it could have been.
Being a sci-fi fan, I thought, being based on a story by Isaac Asimov, it had the potential of being a great science fiction movie. Casting Robin Williams as Andrew, the android, pretty much eliminated that possibility. The tone is definitely not Asimov.
There are some bright spots. Andrews? (Robin Williams) relationships? with Little Miss (Hallie Kate Eisenberg/ Embeth Davidz), and Sir (Sam Neill) are compelling at times. The initial humorous scenes with Andrew are fun.
You can expect to be entertained, but don?t set your expectations too high, or you will probably be disappointed. Also there are only limited segments that small children would enjoy.
Given all of its deficiencies, it is still pretty good, wholesome entertainment, if you do not analyze the parts to rigorously.
