I am sure everyone can relate to this situation, in which your standing in the middle of the movie store, late on a Saturday night, with your significant other, trying to decide which flick to pick and their are only slim pickings. Well this very thing happened last Saturday night to me. After... Read full review »

Pros Cast, plot, everything was great
Cons none that I can see

This movie was definitely one that I would see again. It has you really wondering just how it is all going to end up. A movie that I would classify as a Saturday night stay at home with your sweetheart and eat popcorn movie. It also could be a girls night movie as well. Some would call this a... Read full review »

For those who thinly disguise their fiction

Pros Thoughtful dialogue, well-rounded characters
Cons A lot of disappointment and a too-familiar resolution
Recommended it? Yes

I have a vested interest in The Best Man, and not just because it's another much-needed movie where black people aren't depicted as gangstas, prisoners, drug dealers or prostitutes. It's because of the movie's premise, within which a budding author (played by Taye Diggs) must deal with the... Read full review »

Pros Beautiful and Talented Ensemble Cast / Great Acting / Refreshing Premise
Cons Predictable

It's very nice to see a high quality film starring an all African-American cast. There is not a single depiction of a gang, drugs, or guns in the entire film. All the characters are pleasant, and each and every one is well defined and interesting. With "The Best Man," his first film, Malcolm D... Read full review »

This is a good "date movie"

Pros funny
Cons takes too long to get to the point

This movie was one that I would categorize as a "date movie". If your looking for a major comedy or tear jerker movie, then this is sort of in between. At times I was kind of bored with it, you were not left sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next, you could have... Read full review »

This movie was free at my school and I check out every movie as long as it is free. I checked out other epinions before I went to see it. It reminded me of a movie I saw once before, but I don't know what that was. If you read the summary of the movie, it will probably ring a bell to some of you... Read full review »

THE BEST MAN

A glossy romantic comedy, The Best Man centers on four college friends and the women in their lives, all brought back together for a wedding. Taye Diggs (How Stella Got Her Groove Back) plays the title character, a young writer whose first novel is a barely fictionalized account of his college days, featuring barely fictionalized versions of all his friends. This novel hasn't yet been released, but ambitious TV producer Nia Long (Soul Food) has snagged an advance copy in the hopes of getting an early interview with Diggs. Unfortunately, when this advance copy begins circulating among the college gang, they discover it reveals some secrets that may have a disastrous effect on the wedding. The Best Man features a handsome, charming cast and a propulsive story, but the female characters are poorly developed and the male banter is, to say the least, chauvinistic. This banter is mostly to comic effect, but by the end it still leaves a sour taste that the movie's happy ending doesn't counter. With a particularly strong performance by Terrence Howard as an aimless but relentlessly honest member of the college quartet. --Bret Fetzer
