Belkin FLIP WIRELESS 2PORT KVM Great idea! Irritating qualities! Take a second look though!
Pros
Easy setup and instruction. Perfect interface as the switch can be mounted anywhere.
Cons
One cable shorter than other & problem described above. Having to reset all the time.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Design rushed to market without full DEV testing done before moving to PROD and market. Would I recommend it? Not now, wait a while for next generation of same make.
I had started off with a general KVM working off of PS2 for quite some time. However when I went with a new mouse and eventually a new keyboard with USB2, even with the proper plug converters, could not get my other KVM to recognize to recognize anything USB between my custom build desktop and my pc laptop. Then along came this unit. I saw the one with the wired remote, but I liked the concept of a wireless remote so your bundle does not necessarily have to be so centrally located.
So I picked up my first of this unit, and right away started having trouble with unit switching back and forth between laptop (LT) and desktop (DT), and I was not even touching the remote. You can literally be in the middle of something on one system, and BOOM it just decides to switch over on its own.
Belkin likes to advertise that no software is required for this unit, but I think it may be necessary to handle the USB2 controller. In order to get everything to normal you have to unplug EVERYTHING. Then one at a time, plug in your mouse/keyboard/monitor, then main computer, and finally other computer.
Called tech support (overseas) which was even more frustrating as the gentleman spoke little clear English. He basically told me to take back to vendor and it was clearly a defective unit.
So I did that, and guess what? Same problem! I have not found any other people having problems. I have also connected up to my MAC LT and MAC DT with same results. I think this is going back until gen2 comes out.
The thing I also found very strange is that if you check the Belkin site, it oddly says this unit is not ever released yet!?!?!
p.s. Sound cable is SHORT!
