Lots of potential lost
Pros
Attractive, compact
Cons
No browser, so no way to connect to most free wi-fi. No chat
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Don't consider this phone if you plan to use while traveling unless you are a Boingo subscriber. You'd be better off with Skype on an iPhone of Windows Mobile device.
I reviewed this phone quite a while back and my recommendation has been that it is OK for home use, but basically useless on the road as there is no built in browser to allow connection to free wi-fi and hotels and coffee shops. Unless the wi-fi is completely wide open or you are a Boingo subscriber, you're out of luck.
Another minor peave is the lack of Skype chat support. I use Skype chat a lot during the business day, so I can’t plan on using the Belkin Skype phone exclusively for business because there’s no chat support. I understand that trying to do chat on that itsy bitsy keyboard is difficult, but people send text messages all the time on cell phones, so there should be support for chat. If nothing else, I’d like to be able to set the phone up to let people know that I don’t have Skype chat, try me on AIM or whatever.
Recently Skype released their software for the iPhone, so if you happen to have an iPhone, I'd take advantage of that free software. If you have a Windows Mobile device, there are free Skype downloads for those, too.
If all you want is a neat little phone for home use, this would be OK, but don't pay full price for it. It's not worth it.
