The Bottom Line:
For the price, this router is a great value and it has the warranty Belkin to stand behind it.
This is the 3rd Belkin router that I've had over the years. It is version 2 of Belkin N1 Vision (F5D8232-4). I am very pleased with my purchase. It works as good as it looks and is extremely easy to setup. I had it up and running in less than 5 minutes from opening the box. The set-up software is in the router and does not require that the included disk be used (The disk also has the owners manual on it).
The easy setup includes connecting the router, getting it to recognize the Internet connection, starting and securing the wireless access.
This router has a four port gigabit switch and up to 300 mb/s wireless capacity. The wireless range is excellent. The read out on the front gives information about the network performance and connected clients.
Belkin has a better warranty than most other router vendors. And, I've found their technical service to be excellent.
I only found two potential draw backs to this router:
1) it is not designed to lay horizontal. It must stand vertical and in order to see the display it must face forward. This could be a problem for some people. The space required for the router is 6.125" wide and with the antennas in the upright position it is 9.75" tall.
2) The light in the read out is not very bright and it does not have an adjustment (it can be turned off). This makes it a little hard to read in a bright room. Although, if you have this router in a room where you are sleeping, this may be a benefit.
I've read several reviews that mentioned that the buttons were hard to push, but they are not really that bad. The buttons have a sturdy feel to them; they are not flimsy. Also, several have mentioned having trouble with Cable ISP's, but I had NO trouble at all. From what I understand, Belkin fixed several issues in version 2 of this router which included the VPN problems that some experienced.
As with any gigabit router, compatible clients must be connected with gigabit compatible wiring and if additional switches are used, they must be gigabit compatible as well. Otherwise, the clients will connect at either 10 base-T or 100 base-T. Each port on the router is auto-sensing.
