The Bottom Line:
These pay for themselves in time because they save so much electricity.
I bought 3 of the Belkin Conserve 10 Outlet Surge Protectors with Remote Switch Surge Suppressor last fall after seeing a TV program about saving electricity by turning off appliances, computers, printers, TVs and other energy hogs when they were not in use.
I have always had high quality surge protectors on all of my electrical equipment and phones. Although surges through the electrical system in my city are rare, we live in an area with a lot of lightening storms. Lightening has been powerful enough to turn on the ceiling light in my room and actually ring the phone so I don't take chances and usually unplug everything including phone lines when we know a storm is coming.
However, I bit the bullet and went the extra mile in buying these Surge protectors. The VCR, DVD, converter box and TV are plugged into one in our living room. When I'm not watching TV I turn all of those electricity hogs off with the white remote control that comes with the Belking BG108000-04. The remote works well and can be hung on a wall in a room so that you can turn everything off when you leave the room.
In my bedroom the computer, printer, cellphone charger and heater are plugged in although I do have the DSL plugged into the part of the Belkin that is always on - you have that option. 2 of the 10 plugs are "always" on but in the surge protector mode. We lost the remote control (which is easy to do) in this room so I manually turn all of those things that are plugged into it off by pressing the tiny button on the suppressor.
This gives you an idea of the amount of items, including X box and other games systems that are always sucking power even when not in use. We noticed a difference in our electric bill right away. Not a huge difference but enough that these will pay for themselves in a few years.
These are around 10 inches long and about 4 inches wide, they are an off white and not very deep - about 1 inch.
