I've Seen Better

Pros Batman, animation, Joker
Cons episodes, only 4
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  THE EPISODES PICKED ARE PRETTY LAME.RENT BEFORE YOU BUY!
In the Summer of 2002, Warner Brothers Entertainment released a video/dvd called Batman - The Animated Series: The Legend Begins. The video contained 5 classic Batman episodes that featured the popular Joker, the seductive Poison Ivy, the deadly Scarecrow, and the ugly Man-Bat.The episodes are wonderful and millions of copies were sold.Everyone has been waiting for another volume in the Batman series and finally one has arrived.BATMAN-TALES OF THE DARK KNIGHT.Although the title makes the video seem good it really is not the best thing to come out of Warner Brothers.

Tales of the Dark Knight contains only 4 episodes and they are pretty horrible.I will rate them out of 10.

The first episode is "THE UNDERDWELLERS". 6/10
This is a story about a person who calls himself the SEWER KING.He has a gang of blood hungry crocodiles who will kill on command and about 20 or more kids that he uses as slaves.Batman finds out about this fiend and will do his best to save the children and send this crook to his death in the depths of Gothams' sewers.
This story is pretty good and is fun to watch but it just is not my type of Batman episode. The animation is good as always and the music is excellent.I think the plot in the episode is a little dull.

The second episode is " P.O.V". 4/10
This really has not that much to do with Batman. This story focuses on three cops who all got in trouble during a drug bust.Batman helps the cops out by saving their lives but Batman later vanishes. With the cops being suspended from the police force, one of them goes on a search for Batman to save his life and their future in the police force.

The third episode is "THE FORGOTTEN" 5/10
A very screwy episode in the Batman series.Homeless people start to begin missing in the ghettos of Gotham so one cold night, Bruce Wayne (a.k.a Batman) goes in disguise as a hobo.Bruce wakes up to find himself in a prison in the middle of the desert.Miles away from Gotham with no one knowing where he is.Bruce loses his memory in the process and takes a while for it to regain.A gang kidnaps homeless people and takes them to their prison where they dig for gold. Now it is up to Bruce's butler, Alfred, to find Bruce and help him escape.
I thought this story was pretty lame but it was funny when Alfred was driving batman's plane.

The last episode is "BE A CLOWN" 9/10
The last episode is my favorite for many reasons. It has a great plot, setting, and characters. It also features one of the most famous villain of all time, the hideous JOKER!
Joker "kidnaps" the Mayor's son, Jordan, and tries to make Jordan just like him.But it will not happen when Batman discovers the Joker's lair is the old Gotham Fair at the end of the city. This episode is popular that it is even in The Adventures of Batman and Robin Video game for Super Nintendo as the first level.

For all 4 episodes the animation is wonderful.I would have never thought anyone could draw this well.Batman looks real and the fires and skyline look so real you can even feel the heat from the fire or feel the cold breeze in Gotham.

The voice talents are wonderful.

What really makes this movie below average are the episodes. They are not the best episodes. The episodes in the first volume are much better.
But just because I say they stink does not mean you should not see this. Some people like the episodes and others hate the episodes.I would rent it first and then decide.

The rating for this video/dvd is G but I think it should be PG since there is violence.
The volume is color, closed captioned, and runs for a time of 89 minutes.

Also look for another volume in the Batman series! Volume 3 will be called BATMAN-THE ANIMATED SERIES-OUT OF THE SHADOWS.
This item will be released on July 22, 2003.
It will feature great episodes and sounds better than this volume. There is rumors that it will have episodes with MR.FREEZE, CATWOMAN, PENGUIN, and maybe the JOKER.
