Batman: Holy Almost!
Pros
Smooth Graphics, Stays true to Cartoon, Entertaining
Cons
Too short, Little replay value
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
It was a fun ride but don't expect more than a classic beat-em-up adventure with the Batman title, and don't expect it to last long. Rent it!
The Batman franchise has been used in games as early as The NES, and almost all have failed to capture the true essence of Batman and combine that with an interesting plot and adventure. Batman: Vengeance sets out to accomplish just that...and comes up short.
The game is set in the heart of Gotham and its dark and shadowy feel from the cartoon is brought straight into the game. The character models and voice acting are dead on, along with the memorable cartoon soundtrack. The backgrounds and graphics are smooth and simple. They are lacking in details and realism, but fans of the cartoon will feel right at home. This is where the game truly shines.
Vengeance starts our fast and sends Batman through a variety of challenges involving puzzles, henchmen, car chases in the Batmobile, and encounter with familiar cartoon villains like The Joker, Mr. Freeze, and Poison Ivy. Most of the game you are grappling across buildings and kicking and punching yourself to victory.
Even though the game was fun for the first levels, it was lacking in depth and only took several hours to beat. After knocking out the 300th Joker henchman it became repetitive, with only Batman's arsenal of weapons to keep things interesting. Vengeance was a good attempt at making a game based on the popular Saturday morning toon, but simply fell short when it came to length and keeping me interested. It's the best Bat-Game out there...but not quite good enough.
