The Bottom Line:
The Ultimate Crib Sheet is a great idea and so very useful in so many different ways. A great purchase for every parent!
This is probably one of the best purchases we have made for our baby. It's not only a crib sheet/waterproof mattress pad combination, its also a multipurpose waterproof pad.
The Ultimate Crib Sheet is standard mattress size (52"x28") and has 3 layers: 2 absorbent layers on top and a vinyl waterproof backing. The top layer is very smooth and soft to touch. There are 8 elastic bands with snaps around the edges for securing to your crib bars. It just lays on top of your mattress and snaps in place--no fiddling with getting the sheet on the mattress. The idea is that you put the Ultimate Crib Sheet on top of your crib mattress with a regular fitted sheet, and if you have a blow-out or a leak in the middle of the night, the bed change is really quick and simple. You can just quickly pull off the ultimate crib sheet, and put your baby back to sleep on a dry bed rather than dealing with changing the sheets at night. We don't do this, but one could imagine just having multiple layers of the Ultimate Crib Sheet and never using or changing the regular fitted sheet.
Why do I love this sheet? Because it's a great all-in-one bedding option, and also because it's more than just a crib sheet:
1. It's so easy to use: I am very petite and really hate changing the crib sheet because it's hard for me to get to the mattress, especially the far corners. And when you have a leak, you have to change the sheet and the waterproof mattress pad--what a pain. The ultimate crib sheet makes it so simple to clean up after your baby. You just take off the dirty Ultimate Crib Sheet, and then put the baby back down on a clean bed. (And my husband can deal with changing the sheets in the morning.)
2. I've used it for me: I slept on it towards the end of my pregnancy because I was worried about my water breaking in bed and ruining our mattress. Well, my water didn't break until I was in the hospital, but from that experience, I would have been very happy to have slept on the Ultimate Crib Sheet if my water had broken at home. (I was soaked and wet through 3 of those superabsorbant diaper cloths they give you at the hospital. Water was dripping off of the hospital bed.) Also, in the first few weeks after birth, I leaked so much milk that I slept on the Ultimate Crib Sheet so that we didn't have to change OUR sheets every day. It's much nicer than using those little lap pads that move around and really are too small. I've used it so much for me that another name for it could be the Ultimate Mommy Sheet!
3. We use it everywhere. We put it on the floor for the baby to lay on naked when she has a diaper rash. Even though I don't leak milk at night anymore, we still have one in bed with us for when we bring our daughter into bed with us early in the morning. She sleeps on it and it has saved us from many a spit-up and diaper leak.
4. It holds a lot of liquid. To test it, I poured a gallon of water into it and there was no leaking. It was really wet, but it didn't leak.
5. It's well-made. We've washed ours many times and they are still in good condition. We don't put it in the dryer (we line dry) and that has worked well for us.
Is there anything we don't like about it? Not really. It would be nice if it came in other colors/prints to make it more fun, but that's obviously nonessential. They would probably sell a lot more if they did offer other colors though!
