The Bottom Line:
economy scope that's good for when you don't want to damage your expensive scope, bright image, limited focusing range
I bought the Barska 20-26 X 60mm spotting scope from Big 5 sporting goods on sale for $80 and didn't expect too much for the price. It was made in China with some plastic components and clearly not in the same class as a Nikon or Zeiss, but since I was looking for a scope to take to the range and look at bullet holes at 200 yards, I would be nervous about bringing an expensive scope with me. This Barska was a good fit for the intended use and price. The scope was brighter than I had expected for an economy scope and actually doesn't have distortion around the edge of the image. The focusing range is a bit limited and doesn't allow me to sufficiently focus the image at short ranges, 100 feet or less, but that's because I wear glasses. At longer distances, the focusing seems OK. Looking down the objective lense I can see many of the internal components of the scope appear to be made of plastic, so I don't expect the scope to hold up to shock or last more than a few years without something moving out of alignment, but that remains to be seen. Given the price I paid, if I get 3 years of service before something broke or fell out of alignment, then I would have a good value from this scope.
