The Bottom Line:
Stay away from the Barska Anchormaster AE 10824 if you plan use it as a telescope. For the money there are much better products.
The Barska 9080 Anchormaster Telescope arrived impressively packaged. And it is impressive. It weighs in at a hefty 30 pounds -- all shiny brass. But once you get past the shine the disappointment sets in. The optics disappoint. The telescope is awkward to set up. The tripod is pretty but hard to adjust. The mechanism is jerky and will not easily rotate.
In everyday use the telescope was hard to swivel, as there are apparently no bearings in the mount base and with the heavy weight of the telescope the unit jerks from pivot point to pivot point. The problem is made worse by the fact that the tripod legs do not have any lateral stability, and so they tend to twist with the rotation of the tube.
The targeting scope is touchy to adjust but once adusted works well. But my major complaint is that after 1 1/2 years of ownership, the optics failed and I cannot obtain a viewable focus at any distance, making the whole (expensive) thing a useless piece of furniture.
My recommendation is to stay away from this product unless you simply want a shiny looking telescope. If you plan to use it as a telescope get something else.
